is this a scam?

I got this email response for an ad I placed for a car my in-laws had for sale. Why does he think I'm Rob?

Hello Rob,

Thanks for your response, i did appreciate your way of keeping me posted of developments on your ends. I accept your offer for the car.

At any rate, i'm based in England, north Hamsphire, i just got off the phone with my account officer, who made me understand it will take a while for a check sent from UK here to clear your bank in the US. But all the same, i just made arrangement now, as to how you will get the payment in the US there .

I just finalised with an associate of mine now, and he has agreed to send you the payment in an American paying instrument and this will be drawn on American bank which will be less free and will really speed up our transaction. All the same, as regard the shipping, i have made a solid arrangement with my shipping agent who will be on ground to come for the pick up as soon as you confirm payment.

Please as regards payment, do you want the check sent to your bank or physical address?. Please re-confirm and send to me the beneficiary name that will be endorsed to the check and also your full mailing address inclusive telephone number.

As regard shipping once again, you will be receiving an overage in your payment, and you will have to deduct the cost of your car and you will have to send my balance to my shipping agency in England so that they can come for the pick up.Send me a picture of the interior.

Please reply asap.

Regards,
Mark

That's funny. He asks for a picture of the interior last, and blabs about payment information first. Scam scam scam!

If it looks like a scam, and smells like a scam, assume its a scam. It certainly has some earmarks of one of the Nigerian variant scams. If it is, I assume that you get payment with a forged/stolen instrument, ship the car, then get left holding the bag. If you didn't initiate this contact, ignore it.

I've seen this before. You send him the "overage" and his cheque bounces. Tuna? Smells fishy. So does this.

Ok some of you didn't catch on this scam all the way.

Sixto got this email b/c the crook found his addy from the ad. BUT instead, the crook pretends to do legit business..but with Rob, not Sixto.

So Sixto looks it over and goes "OH shiet, he thinks I"m Rob and he's ready to send me money. SCrew that I'm gonna pretend to be rob and send me my info that he needs," hoping to cash on it.

While Sixto thinks he's a crook, he's actually getting scammed.

This smells fishy to me too. While we were trying to get rid of a 1992 Continental, we received tons of these scams, primarily the Nigerian scam that 'tjohn' mentioned. We always knew it was a scam because: 1) The so-called "interested party" was always based in Africa. 2) Really bad grammatical errors. 3) "Interested party" always had a check written for like $15,000 so they would send us that check and we'll have to reimburse the remainder of whatever our asking price was.

I'm so glad we got that car sold, and had the sense to know that it was a scam. We must to have received like 10 scam e-mails, maybe even more. Do what we always did, DELETE IT!

I am in the shuttle bus industry. A dealer that I deal with told me about a Nigerian who called him by phone for a used $25,000 bus that he had advertised. After many phone conversations the purchase was made which included shipping for another $10,000. After the certified check was received the Nigerian called with a request for a refund of the shipping money because he had found a cheaper shipper. My dealer decided to wait to be sure the $35,000 check cleared before he sent the refund or released the bus. Of course it never did clear. These guys are persistant and apparantly not all Nigerian. Good observation about the identity, DRamg

Go to www.ebolamonkeyman.com and you'll see what this is all about.

CaptAlex300e, that ebola monkey thing is hilarious! Of course, he must have a lot of time on his hands.
