And I do mean tool. Perfect example of selling a product that has no value and getting paid handsomely for it. I have heard him speak in public, met him in social settings (fundraisers) and listened to him for more than 10 years as a curiosity. He was 'purchased' for listening by Multimedia Corporation to broadcast in the South east for years and every executive with that company referred to him as a joke that was necessary to get the nascar crowd to listen to talk radio. Don't kid yourself, he's no William F. Buckley:D :D :D At least Buckley can write sincerely about his sailing travels.
I wish I'd have said that.

truth is truth?

I remember in college taking a psychology course that taught about multiple intelligences. There were 8 categories:
*intrapersonal
*musical
*verbal-linguistic
*naturalistic
*kinesthetic
*logic-math
*interpersonal
*visual-spacial
Now when I view the lineups for Monday/Sunday NFL games, it seems to me the majority of the players are black. Athletic ability falls under the kinesthetic area; yet, individuals have other areas that may be high, but not as dominant. Not racism - science.
It seems to me that anything and everything can be said about us white guys - but say anything about a black and the Holy War is on ! I for one am starting to get tired of it ! This is the reason I left the army, and soon to leave public school teaching.

You bring up a good point Robert. Your personal experience matches mine. Of course society is knee jerking to the segregation/ mistreatment of blacks in the past.
I wonder what will happen when, in approximately 45 years, caucasions become the minority as hispanic and african descendants will each be in superior numbers over caucasion.
I personally think that we need to become one merged color and unless we have some sort of race war, we probably will within a few hundred years. Interracial mariages has become much more acceptable than it was 30 years ago. How can you be prejudiced against someone if you are related to him?

Limbaugh is just a source of entertainment for many people from the lower classes of our society. He caters to people who have little, if any, power. He makes his listeners feel good about themselves and their situation in society. These are poor, uneducated people who enjoy being told their lives are so miserable because another group(blacks, Mexicans, gays, Jews, whatever) has been given an unfair share of the American pie. What Limbaugh says shouldn't upset anyone because Limbaugh, like his audience, has no power. The people he converts aren't in positions of power and influence-----do you honestly think the NFL cares what Rush or his listeners think?

I think Rush is from the bootheel and quickly learned he could cash in using this bootheel mentality over the airwaves to upset people. He knows what he's saying at all times, its all about ratings

Snibble, I said Limbaugh listeners basically come from lower socio-economic backgrounds. There are some educated people who do listen to Limbaugh for a laugh in much the same way some people listen to Dr Laura.

I agree with your comments which is why I am not a hyphenated American. I'm just an A merican and believe everyone else should be to. I guess I'm technically a European-American, but I don't call myself that.

janesnj,

If I wasn't aware of the subject matter, I'd say that most of your first paragraph describes organized religion.

Cummon Robert, we all know that white guys can't jump and can't dance. ;)

Snibble, you should listen more carefully to Limbaugh. You have a lot to learn, and he could teach you. You have obviously grown up in a bad (liberal) environment.

I was a communications specialist in the Army and while on some boring night shifts I would scan the radio dial and came across Rush in 1988 and have been listening ever since that time. Rush is a conservative entertainer like George Carlin, Al Franken are Liberal entertainers. Over the years I have heard many inconsistencies in his views but I keep in mind that he’s not a political genius, he’s just an entertainer and a darn good one at that.

Although I like Rush, Orielly, and Hannity they are all hypocrites, but that’s par for the course when it comes to actors.

I am sure Rush will overcome his problems if he hits them head on and not try to fabricate or dodge the issues. I remember O'Rielly calling Jenna Jameson a whore but he still requested some of her movies, it is just another example that thsese guys have to be taken with a grain of salt because they are in it for the $$$.

I remember a 60 minutes interview with Rush along time ago and when asked what his goal was he said "get the audience as large as I can, hold on to them as long as I can and charge huge advertising fee's" he never said I will tell the truth even if it hurts my ratings.

gemoore 10-04-2003 01:06 PM

I agree. Some of what Rush does springs from honest conviction, but a lot of it is all about money, witness his newsletter and admission charges on his Web site. (He even hawked ties at one time. Not very dignified, if you ask me.) He is a great entertainer, but about half the time, he goes over the top. It's great hearing him wrestle with himself over support for Bush, who, as it turns out, is quite a bit more liberal than Rush is.

Regarding the ESPN thing, I think Rush forgot who his audience was. Furthermore, when the sports reporters got hold of the story, Rush was dead. Sports reporters are big kids who pay scant attention to anything else, and their stories aren't edited by people who have their feet on the ground. Rush is smart, but not "all-knowing."

As for the drug allegations, I think the jury is still out. The woman making the allegations may not make the best of witnesses, and she could be falsifying all of this because of some perceived wrongs. Then again ... she may have been hired by liberals who want to silence Rush.

bard - I think I agree with you - an entertainer using drugs is not very shocking. IF the charges are true about Rush then it would be ironic but not shocking.

savas 10-04-2003 03:03 PM

Just checked out the link - thanks MedMech.

He may want to look at his maid selection process:D
