Honeymoon Ideas

In order to get myself out of planning my wedding I agreed to plan the honeymoon (we'll see how well this works). Looking at September/October next year.

I wanted to tap into the worldly expertise of this board for ideas. We would like to be able to do some of these things on our vacation:
-Scuba diving
-Sailing
-Surfing
-Biking
We spent a lot of time in Puerto Rico last year and feel like we would like to go somewhere more exotic for our honeymoon than the caribbean. Even though I've never been there she's made it clear that Hawaii is out (another time, I guess). I don't want to go where they hate Americans (i.e. might get blown up). We have also already been to Rio and though I'd love to go back sometime, not for this trip. I was thinking about Spain or Greece or Australia. Budget is not going to be an issue (althought I do have limits). 2 week stay. I enjoy relaxing on my vacations so a rural location or roughing it is not an interest. We are really open to about any other location that would fit these parameters. We do enjoy experiencing different cultures but neither of us knows another language so it would be nice if some of the people are familiar with English.

Any and all info would rock! Thanks

Not being a world travelers, one of the best things the wife and I have done together was a boat cruise. We just did a 3-day thing up into Canada a couple years ago. We had a blast!! You don't have to think, except for when to stop and start eating.;) Very relaxing time for us. We spent the extra and got a room with a balcony, so we could sit out and watch the scenery go by. I can't speak high enough about the experience:cool:
Take a boat cruise to anywhere!:)

Two thumbs up to Tahiti aboard a Windstar ship. It's pricey but it's not so bad compared to the rates of land based accommodations. Not to be confused with similar Club Med Tahiti packages. Australia is also very nice for that type of activity.

Haha my aunt and uncle went to Montana after Deer, Antelope and Elk.

This is what you have to do http://www.anegadareef.com/ if you want a taste of the REAL Caribbean. The island is surrounded by the 3rd largest reef in the world, so it's never crowded due to limited anchorage. The Island population is still around 150 people.

Forget the 'action' stuff: take your lady first to Paris, next to Venice, and then to Rome, and spend the rest at the coast in Sorrento or Capri. Mmmm... Bella Italia: you'll have the time of your life.

Ciao,

Since you say budget isn't an issue, let me suggest Seychelles

Never been there but have always wanted to. They are the most photographed islands on Earth...

Damn Illinois

I would say the caribbean is the place to go. Charter a boat with the Moorings (BIG discounts right now- anniversary for the company) and you you Sail, bike and scuba dive. Study those charts before entering Anegada's anchorage...Impress your new bride by entering under sail!

I never quite figured why couples would want to do things outside of their hotel room on their honeymoon. Unless you've been cohabitating already, but still....

Base on that, my suggestion is:

12 nights in a mid-range hotel. Make sure it has room service.

First of all, congratulations on your upcoming wedding :)

I may have a good idea for you. You mention scuba, sailing, surfing and biking and it seems you are leaning away from the caribbean.....but don't count out Tortola. You also mention "I enjoy relaxing on my vacations so a rural location or roughing it is not an interest." I can appreciate that :)

My suggestion is to head to Tortola in the British Virgins. Spend some time on the island, but make sure to book a six day scuba trip aboard the Cuan Law....you will get pampered BEYOND belief.....gourmet meals, great crew, excellent diving and only 20 guests maximum.

Here's the link....

www.cuanlaw.com

I did this trip two years ago after having scuba trips in Florida, Cozumel, Belize and the British Virgins. This was the BEST (by far) scuba trip I had ever been on. A live-aboard was the way to go ;) The Cuan Law also happens to be a 105 ft. Trimaran, so you'll get to sail around the islands as well.

Good luck!

That's OK as long as it's not OUR boat. We own a Moorings 50 in the BVI.

The reef isn’t as bad as it used to be, back in the old days in was marked with lobster trap buoys.

Thanks for the ideas!

The Virgin Isles idea is worth considering but the Tavarua and Seychelles look really cool! Is Seychelles THAT expensive?

Sounds like a hell of a boat Med Mech. We used to own a Venture 22 (Ghetto boat compared to yours) and I want to buy a big dad like yours when I get closer to being able to spend a lot of time on it (retirement probably). Anegada sounds awesome but I think it may be better for a different trip. I like the idea of a small friendly area (part of the reason I like Paraty Brasil better than Rio).

Thank you all for your congratulations and suggestions. Sounds like as a group we really know how to travel!

If scuba is high on your list, do an internet search on "Dive Kiribati".

If you're looking for a fancy resort, however, this ain't it.

I re-read your post and noticed that your leaving in Sept. or October keep in mind that is peak Hurricane season and even if you don't get pegged by a cane it's likely you will encounter some crappy weather.
