almost had a tree in our house

Had a big wind storm blow thru the Puget Sound area last night. About 6PM the kids came out of their room, saying they heard a loud crash outside their windows. We went out and sure enough, a big fir tree had come down. It was about 75" tall. It was the neighbors tree, luckily. It fell almost perfectly between our houses, almost like someone planned it. Just took out a section of fence on her side that needed to be replaced anyways.
The stupid thing is, she was warned to take that tree down! When we had a couple trees taken down last winter, the guy told me to tell my neighbor that she needs to have that particular tree taken down because it was dead on one side. I told her, and she just said "Oh. Ok." Hoo Boy! She hasn't been home the last couple days, so she's in for a surprise when she comes home

You guys felt the wind storm down south too eh? I was driving to downtown Vancouver last night, and the wind was incredible...parts of the Lower Mainland lost power, and street lights were out on major streets...right now, I am in the process of raking up the leaves and breaking up the branches that came down...quite a bit of work...it is probably gonna take a few days before things are back to normal...

A couple of years back, we had a tree similar in size to the one you described come crashing down in our backyard during a wind storm...it came crashing down on the garage roof...we had another tree come down before that one on some power lines, and it took out the power for the entire neighborhood...the clean up was a nightmare...wood chips and pine needles everywhere...

Anyhow, glad to hear you were lucky and nothing was damaged on your side of the yard...

yeah, there was a restaurant on a pier down next to a ferry dock that got hit by waves. I guess the floor was actually lifting 3 to 4 feet needless to say they evacuated the place quick!
Don't get storms like that very often here. Kinda freaky!

I just saw an episode of "This Old House" that addressed the issue of trees located on your neighbor's property that can pose a danger to yourself. They say a certified letter should be sent to the neighbor asking them to remove the tree. I'm glad nothing serious happened to your family.

It was too dark out last night to get any good pics. I'll see what it looks like when I get home in a few hours. I want pics anyway to document my "told you so"
