4nDelit: thats a really funny picture, especially considering he doesn't even need hood pins. The only thing hood pins are usefull for is carbon fiber hoods, because they are so light and some don't come with latches, they have a tendancy to fly up at interstate speeds without hood pins. Gotta love them "towel holders" as some one put it lol.

I've been a drummer for 19+ years, so I'm half-deaf anyway...so the volume of peoples' systems doesn't bother me much...My system will kick it pretty loud, so I'm probably inadvertently one of the "offenders" from time to time.

Concerning the "ricer" thing...There are a few guys who make tasteful and effective mods to their Japanese imports and small domestic cars, and that's great. Unfortunately they seem to be in the minority, and a dwindling minority at that!

I see more and more of the goofy oversized "racing" stickers and hilarious spoilers and wings, coffee-can tailpipes and those ridiculous low-profiles sticking way out of the wheel openings...I live in downtown Atlanta, and EVERY DAY I see some banged-up $900 car with $3,500 worth of custom wheels and tires on it, and sometimes a lawnmower-sounding exhaust and some silly spoiler on the trunk...I don't know whether to openly laugh at them, or to feel sorry for them! Movies like The Fast and the Furious have unfortunately engouraged and glamorized this fad.

Mike

OK class, take your seats.....

Today we're going to study two importamt aspects of automobiles.
A "Ricer" is a car made in the Orient or by an Oriental company that has been modified to look like a 'Transformer' or 'Power Ranger'.
A "rice burner" is the same car in it's stock configuration.

Lesson #2. Either reset sensitive car alarms or turn them OFF. If they're set off my loud noise then they're too sensitive. Besides, when did a frickin car alarm actually stop a thief?????

Class dismissed.:p

I'll bet it had something to do with World War II. I think they killed a lot of Americans.

cap'n, I will have to disagree with you on this one. Ricers don't have to be asian, I've seen many a focus that would be considered rice by my books, maybe it's just a difference in definition. I also have to find a certain picture that matches your transformer reference.

Transplant ANY car you want under all the junk, and you have a "Ricer"

Understatement of the week. They didn't pay attention to the Geneva Convention, and thus were rather gruesome. There were even some reports of cannibalism (the one I'm readily remembering was where a Japanese officer disembowled a group of captured USMC pilots, took their livers, and put them into a stew). In spite of not having experienced it firsthand, I can hardly blame Ted's grandfather...

The term "ricer" evolved from "rice burner". It has now taken on the generic definition, like 'frigidaire' is any refrigerator. Though not technically correct it is commonplace to call a modded Focus a 'ricer' although you seldom hear anyone refer to a tricked out Merc or BMW as 'ricer'.

Cap'n if the term "ricer" only describes Japanese cars than what would you call a 190E with some awfull mods? A "strudel burner" (sp.) I personaly don't like Japanese cars, if I want to go fast I will buy a big V8 or 6. I don't like the 4 bangers that much, you have to rev. the s**t out of them to go anywhere, I want power now in a fast car. But I can respect a fast nicely done Japanese car. The only Japanese car I would realy want to own is the Honda NSX.

I think "kraut burner" is appropiate.

My thoughts exactly! I have other reasons to not want anything to do with Japanese auto manufacturers, but I can honestly say that I have yet to see a Japanese-built vehicle that I could possibly want to own, except for the older FJ-40 Land Cruisers (would still prefer a 'Mog or an IH Scout, though).

I wasn't bashing the TLC I was actually saying that it's the only Japanese vehicle that I can think of that I would ever want to own.

Well, maybe that and a Mitsubishi Zero for historical reasons

Kinda funny. 20 years ago, I swore I'd NEVER own a Japanese car. Now I swear I'll never own another American car after the fun with my wife's Chrysler. We're looking to buy something DEPENDABLE, like a Japanese car Go figure.
