Thumbs up Mike Tangas, hope U R OK in the middle of hell-fire.

Hey Mike, this fire close to your city of Temecula is really getting
bad.
My cousin lives in Ventura and she moved to a nrw location close to Moorpark(her old home). Her former home is in ashes!! The kid's former school as well.My sister in law's Grandma lives in Escondido but so far she is OK.

My nephew, a firefighter, is doing marine reserve bootcamp at Camp Pendelton.

No doubt he is itching to go fight fires!

Hope you are doing well and out of harm's way as best as possible.
I'm sure that the police and fire depts. are very busy.

Denis

Denis

The latest fire is less than 10 miles from my house, much closer to Suginani's mother's place. It is only a couple miles from where we keep the horses and fortunately the wind is holding that advance (at least at the time we took one horse back after today's riding events). Once we unloaded her from the trailer and put her up, we set back and watched as no less than 8 different aerial tankers were making multiple runs. Impressive choreography to say the least, but was making little headway in knocking the fire down. The ranch owner has our number and if the fire path shifts we'll be loading the horses and bringing them to the house, no matter what the HOA has to say.

We also just heard about the major blaze near Miramar MCAB, apparently quite a few houses lost there and Scripps Ranch area evacuated. Wifey has a friend lives in SR, and we've been unable to contact her.

Wilburrrrrrrrrr, we're no longer in Kansas!!

Mike, I have an aquaintance that has horses somewhere in Escondido. No idea what the status is. Bummer for you all.

The winds are apparently going to get calmer for about 14 hours
on Monday. Then the aerial tankers can do their stuff.

Glad you are OK.

Mike,

My mom says the fire is pretty close.

There is no mandatory evacuation order yet, but they're packing up valuables now just in case.

The fire that started in Fontana has spread to the west along the foothills, and the San Bernardino fire has spread east, and now it is one long fire.

This morning, the fire had made it all the way to Upland and Claremont, and was threatening San Dimas and Glendora.

I live about 3-5 miles south of San Dimas, and there is ash everywhere today.

I can also see the water scooping airplanes and helicopters flying overhead as they wait their turn filling up at Puddingstone reservoir all day long.

Ditto

I just spoke with my buddy last night who works in Poway, they've asked him not to come to work today. I hope things improve real soon!

My work is a stones throw from the Simi fire. The drive in reveled the smokey mountains from what had burned, what a sight. We're to the east of it and the wind is blowing south so we're okey...for now.

Suginami, I think that it is smart to pack and be prepared.

If I lived in the vicinity, I would have spent the $1000 to have the most important household items moved into storage by a moving company.
Cheap insurance.

It is going to be bad enough for the unfortunate folks who have lost their homes. What they have ahead of them is a battle with insurance companies. Then, when the house is rebuilt, good luck getting it insured!!
The same companies will ,no doubt, dump them and the rates will sky rocket.
Terrible reality check in the midst of misfortune.
Anyway, I hope for the best for these folks.
Gotta keep march'in forward!
Hope your family fares well.

Thanks for the hot tip.

Luckily, the fire's westward advance along the foothills was stopped at the foothills above Claremont. It was San Dimas that was most greatly in danger, but the city was spared.

I was really not in the direct path of the fire, which is basically burning semi-wilderness areas, where people build in the mountains or on the rugged slopes / foothills of the mountains. They are in a high-risk area as far as fire danger, and they should be aware if they bought or tried to buy fire insurance. Their premiums are high. It is the same thing as if you live in a flood zone.

Sooo, the fire would've continue to burn in a west - east direction. To come the 3-5 miles to me, the fire would've had to jump 2 major interstate freeways, which is highly unlikely.
