OK I lied. I couldn't resist posting this.

So to continue the medical analogy:

Will the US be getting taken to court by Iraq for malpractice?

...uh, so we're really supposed to be crafting our foreign policy based on the writings of Machiavelli? Really? Is this some kind of f@#king Rumsfeldian joke?

Quote:
Containment and deterrence won’t work with them. These Cold War doctrines presumed that our enemy had rationality, and a desire for self-preservation. Well, our enemies today sure don’t. So pre-emption must prevail -- more out of necessity than of choice.
...uh, ok....if containment didn't work with Saddam, then where are the mythical stockpiles of WMD's? We just had to attack and invade a sovereign nation in an all hell-fired hurry because these ghostly apparitions 'necessitated' it -- right?....pffft, these Neo-con guys are certifiable kooks.

Again today.
http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/11/01/sprj.irq.main/index.html

Afghanistan War was a very necessary and just war, but Iraq War was just plain stupid and too much costly in terms of money and exceedingly precious human lives (our young soldiers' lives).

I wish Bush and his gangsters all had sons that were forced to go to Iraq and get killed as if life is nothing.

You guys have ever imagined having your relatives sent over there to get killed? Put yourself in the position of these poor families, and you'll understand why Bush and his gang must be removed from office next year.

Yeah Eric, I wish politicians had some risk other than historic. This is one thing with which I agree with the black NY congressman, whazzisname, who proposed re-instituting the draft. (though I think the draft is stupid). When rich yankee white boys started getting drafted it sure as heck stopped the Vietnam meatgrinder. As long as it was latinos, blacks, and rural crackers getting sent over there, it was okay.

I'm a member of a family that has had many male members serve in the armed forces in each generation. Most have been officers, I was enlisted. Its a shared honor and bond we have. We've also been extremely lucky--no deaths or injuries since the War Between the States. I have one child old enough to serve now, and she's thinking about it. I think she'd make an excellent officer.

It is a proud agony that family members feel. Its good and generous of you to remember that.

I have 2 boys, ages 17(stepson) and 14(mine).

I often think that this war in Iraq will last much longer than the govt told us, and that we will have a draft at some point in our future.

Let's face it, the US Military has it's lowest number of members since the cold war. If there were to be other hostilities that require more troops, we would be spread dangerously thin, thereby requiring more troops and at some point, the draft.

Sure, we have more technology than any other country, but fighting a guerilla war, it seems, is not as simple as defeating a known military target, where we clearly have the advantage.

Being a parent I would hate to see my kid get drafted to go fight a war that seems to be a bunch of Bull*&#(, started with no plan for policing the country afterwards. Our young soldiers die needlessly, while Bush' cronies get fat off the contracts.

I hope this war in Iraq would end soon, however, each day seems like the end is further away.

Those zealots have nothing to live for, other than killing others and taking themselves along the way in need be. They don't have to follow "engagement" rules, they just blow **** up.

Our guys on the other hand do have things to live for, have to follow rules of engagement and are being killed for their country.

I have always been proud to be an American and still am.

However, some of the things this administration has done are making me feel a little less proud.

Just my .02

No one is FORCED to join the military. Not like in many countries that love to hate us!...

I don't have to imagine, I've had, and still have, friends and relatives in the military. And I'm damn proud of them, and would not EVER consider myself one of "these poor families".

So your sad, pathetic boo-hoo stories won't work on me. Sorry.

Mike

If it's a good idea, and makes sense, and works...then why not? Not ALL brilliant ideas have to come from the mouths of the divine Democrats!

Saddam had historically shown that he had no intention of being contained. He was always working towards reconstituting his military power--still was, right up to the day the Iraqi liberation started--and still would be, if we had chosen to continue to sit around and watch the UN wring their hands.

The pockets of violence instigated by Saddam loyalists seems to have spiked lately...Have you considered that it could be because we are getting uncomfortably close to something that they really don't want us to find?

gee, seems like the democrats on the intelligence committee engage in some pre-emtive strikes on their own. According to an unsigned memo, all the democrats on that committee engage in a scheme to embarass the White House rather than how to protect me and my family from terrorists. Sorry, when it comes to the safety of my family I prefer Bush over ANY whiny democrat more focused on getting the power back than on serving their country.
Hi Eric, how's the kid? Sorry you are sooo wrong politically, but we'll show you the way.
