Who here uses what and why? I just switched from Dish Network to DirecTV and the difference is night and day. The Direct Tivo is so simple my 2 year old almost has it figured out. The picture quality is also much better than Dish. Plus the offer I got from expert satellite made the deal too good to pass up.

I went with Cox because of a promo that gave premium cable modem price break to subscribers. I like the internet and have a computer room in which we're all geeked-out. The kids and I can be online simultaneously in the same room, which doesn't look so much like monitoring....

I'm not much of a TV guy so 3 channels or 1,000 is all the same to me--though I'd miss some of the cable news, science, history, and my beloved C-SPAN.

Most of the rest of it is mercifully forgettable BS.

We have Tivo and could not live without it. You input a key word like Mercedes, nova or whatever tivo records it and you watch it whenever you want. I showed it to Jim (engatawork) and he seemed somewhat impressed.

Also cable on my 57" tv is distorted, so the switch to satellite was a must do scenerio.

Somewhat impressed is an understatement:). The Tivo system blew me away. Too bad we are on an "eliminating" tv campaign around this house:(.

I know from personal experience that after you've been with DirecTV for awhile (perhaps when you've fufilled the initial contract) you can call them up to cancel, and they will offer a nice price reduction and premium channels for some time period for free.

In my case it was a reduction from $37.99 to $33.99 and all ShowTime channels for free for six months.

I'd be interested in hearing anyone's experience with two-way Satellite broadband Internet service. DirecWay or StarBand, or whatever else is (reasonably) available.

I went with Dish Network mainly on price. However, I'm gettnig quite frustrated with the selection that seems to favour junk channels, and is badly lacking with the good stuff like the complete discovery network of channels. Of course, the only way to get the rest is to buy another 90 channels of trash not worth the bandwith that they take up on the satellite signal. :mad:

I may be switching soon.

ive got DTV with a gizilion channels, and still little anything of great interest. wind up watching PBS as much as anything. however, i do like that the prems offer multichannels. (7or8 HBOs)

the BAD, awoke with tornados bearing down, news guys says "take cover now if you are located" ... system searching for sat. :eek: :confused: :( :mad: heavy rains does knock her out for several minutes.

of course the next morning, i remembered about the weather-band radio in the MB hardly ever getting getting used. so ...

when the cranky sat lets you down, HEAD TO THE MB !!!

I went with DirecTV after I finished building the house in 96, I paid $900 for the receiver and dish. The only cable available is the old analog system. I also have DirecWay since there is no other broadband internet service. The two way internet is OK and beats dialup hands down.

I am fighting off the urge to go HDTV because the early adopters usually get the shaft. My strategy is to switch to dish for a month or so and then back to DirecTV for the HD promotions.
