Thinking about all the cars I owned got me thinking about the cars I wish I'd owned. So if you had to pick 10 cars for you own driveable museum what would they be?

Nice lists of great cars, but the MOST significant car in the history of the automobile is missing.
How can anyone make a list of significant cars--for a museum-- and omit the Ford Model T. It put the world on wheels. The ever decreasing cost made it possible for the average man to buy a car. By lowering the price, Ford made it possible for the men who made them to be able to afford one; in a sense returning the money he paid in wages to the company. It was simple and durable in an age when most cars were not.
Another large omission is the early Ford V8 which brought a high level of performance to the masses.
1960 Ford Falcon--the most sucessful of Detroits import-fighters and the fastest selling new car line until it was superceded by....
1964 1/2 Mustang--started a whole bunch of imitators which were named after it--pony cars.
1986 Ford Taurus, another innovative vehicle responsible for the whole breed of "bean" cars.
There are a whole bunch of Mercedes models deserving of inclusion including the fabulous gull wings, but these were rather limited production automobiles produced for the very few. They may have sent spirits soaring, but in terms of impact on the mass of production automobiles, their impact was somewhat limited. The above-mentions Fords, by way of contrast, significantly impacted at least US car production far above their contemporaries.

1946 VW Beetle Germany's postwar answer to the Model T.

1955 Citroen DS - probably the most high-tech car of the pre-computer chip era.

1959 Mercedes 220SE - first successful mass produced fuel injection car.

1961 Jaguar XKE - British Style and performance.

1964 NSU Wankel Spyder - First rotary engine car. (Too bad the rotary wasn't reliable!)

1966 NSU RO 80 - Front drive, inboard disc brakes, rotary engine, 'way ahead of it's time' styling. Probably Germany's most high-tech car of the '60s

Just about anything I'd ever want in a vehicle museum is located here at the Deutshes Museum in Munich:

This website doesn't do it justice, so you'll just need to travel there and experience these vehicles for yourselves. I highly recommend the entire museum -- spend at least a week.

I'll second the vote for the NSU Ro/80 -- a true classic!

You'll have to back that split window vette back by one year. They were only sold in 1963. IMO, they are the best looking 'vettes out there, and the split window makes that one year unique in of itself.

Oops! Mopar never made a 427 either. Try a wedge 440. And yes, the GTX was a mopar. Pontiac had the GTO.
