Is generalizing about any identifiable group always wrong?

When is it not wrong?

For example, I could say something like, "Communists want to overthrow our financial and social and governmental systems. Its a system under which my ancestors and I have thrived and I believe my children will thrive. This is a threat to my way of life. Therefore, all communists threaten my life and the lives of my children."

Substitute any ethnicity or nationality or religion. Notice how the degree of offensiveness changes depending on whom we put in the dock.

I think threaten is a tad bit too strong--I like to think I vex "with extreme prejudice." a la Apocalypse Now

It's not a double standard at all.

In one case, you've got a black person making fun of a black person for being black. In another case you have a white person making fun of a black person for being black.

In other words, in the first case, you're part of the group being made fun of. In the second case, you're not. Two totally different scenarios, with presumably different intentions.

Sometimes, when I talk to my friend who is African American, I say "nigg@" and then she tells me "Foo, you a frenchie."
I think it's funny cuz she right. I talk black and sometimes I think I'm blacker than her, but then again I enjoy fried chicken more than her I"m sure so I must be black somewhere inside. I can actually rap pretty good.

Werd. Take it away Shanta.

You can't be for real. "'I think it's funny cuz she right'". What do you possibly hope to accomplish by speaking, and especially writing, this way? Is having people assume you are ignorant something to strive for now?

I don't know about "everyone" being too sensitive, but it sure seems to have hit a nerve with you.

So as a result, he is being used as a beating post for racism alarmists simply because of his color and that in itself is racist. Meaning , those screaming racism are in faCt the racists themselves looking for a "reason" to lash out at whites. At least, I think that is what he is saying..
The thing that I find so comical about Limbaugh's tirade is that he thought that the most important wrong that he needed to correct that day was that black people have it too easy in this country. With everything else going on in the world, that is the evil he chose to fight? Give me a break.

Of course Limbaugh's comments were racist. Don't you think that he intended his audience to view other black people in prominent positions, whether in football, business, politics, or whatever, as being the beneficiaries of preferental treatment? Of course, he would make an exception for, say, Clarence Thomas, because Justice Thomas's nomination had nothing to do with race. He was nominated because he was the single most qualified person in the country to be on the Supreme Court. And if you believe that, I've got a bridge I need to sell. Limbaugh's tirade was racist garbage. That every defensive coordinator in the NFL probably disagrees with his analysis did not matter to him, because he figured that there was a large audience out there eager to buy his ridiculous spin.

Keep me outta this frenchie! :D

Everyone needs to go get a fix of their liking, and give this subject a rest.

BTW: Dr. AMG does think he is blacker then me, but that is for all the wrong reasons.

Give ME a break! He was hired by ESPN to be a sports commentator, and he was commenting on something he believed he had observed going on in sports and sports media. He was not being paid to "save the world". He addresses the "important" issues at his other job (on his radio show)...

There ARE black people, AND people of other races, who are the beneficiaries of "preferential treatment" for various reasons. Pointing out this reality and encouraging people to examine the situation, circumstances, and the reasons for it is NOT inherently racist.

It's only seen as racist by two kinds of people: Those who walk around with a chip on their shoulder, actively LOOKING for something or someone they can label as racist. And then of course the other kind: Those who don't like Limbaugh and/or his politics. Those two are often the same person.
