Still nothing to worry about...the only war France ever won was the French Revolution. And that was because they were fighting Frenchmen!
"I would rather have a German division in front of me than a French one behind me."-General Patton "Going to war without France is like going hunting without your accordion."--General Norman Schwarzkopf

French Bashing
It amazes me to no end to still see how vivid the Anti-french racism still is, even though the reservations they made about the war (no wmds) turned out to be true.
And that thing about them being ungrateful. I might learn different history over here, but I thought that it was the French who helped kick out the brits during the independence war. I might be mistaken though... |

"French racism"? What race are the French?
If one could imagine that the French were to be rude to Americans, would that be racism towards America? Give me a break. That Chirac and de Villipain are short-sighted, foolish, pretentious opportunists is npt a function of race. Those are deliberately chosen attributes of people whose self-importance overwhelms friendship and loyalty. He is kinda cute the way he sucks-up to a nice-lookin' corn-fed Texas girl. He was probably a very successful bistro boy. |

And I used the word racism because for some of you it seems that no matter who or what the person is, if he/she comes from France she becomes some kind of illiterate ungrateful terrorist....just like a racist looks at someone who is not his race....so it's only a problem of my limited vocabulary, how do you say it when people deliberatly and systematically discriminate people who are from a country they don't like? |

Of course, they also say that this was a war for oil, and that the USA isn't really interested in the fate of the irakis, and that there are no wmd's... The bottom line is, that whole anti-French campaign is mostly counter-productive.It does more against the US's image abroad and gives people more sympathy for the French... |

The boycott and ill will come from within the majority of US citizens who are highly irritated by the French politicians whose political ambitions are more important to them than addressing the immanent threat of terrorism and the destruction of a mad dictator. A dictator whose oft-stated ambitions of regional dominance have been acted upon on several violent occasions and whose barking-mad sons tossed political opposition into limb chippers. That is evil. That old Europe morality, once the beacon of hope for mankind, has decayed to the point that it cannot name and confront evil came as a surprise to American citizens, who learned a valuable lesson at the hands of evil men: it is better for bad guys to die over there than it is for innocents to suffer over here. I sure like to visit European museums. They remind me of life led by people whose vision brought rational government and human rights to the world, with the sword when necessary. My ancestors learned that lesson. With my help and insistence, my children will take-up those same ideals as watchwords of life. Botnst |

Manu:
You're not mistaken. It is highly unlikely that the American Revolutionaries would have won their war without the help of the French and their navy. That's gratitude for you.

moparmike -- that is absolutely hysterical -- take a bow!
manu -- you might be making too much of this. Our dislike of the French is almost entirely personal. We would dislike the French even if we were in political and philosophical agreement. It's hard to like someone whose disgust for you is legendary across the globe. There are other reasons of course, but that puts a big chip on your shoulder right off the bat...
