Patriot Act Only a matter of time

It was only a matter of time before the powers of the Patriot Act would be misused. Who knew it would be so soon though!

That is the BIG THING that the administration has accomplished which I think is a terrible threat to liberty. Its almost, but not quite as bad as the various RICO shinanigans.

I hate centralized power. I hate abuse of power. To me, these two acts taken together as a big a threat, in the long term, as any act of government we've ever had.

We barely managed to dodge this terrible bullet in Canada, and only after public outcry. The feds were taking steps to allow the police pretty much unlimited power, including the use of unrestricted search and seizure.

It was only a matter of time before gov't used terrorism as an excuse to suspend civil liberites.

On the bright side, there will be armed escorted trips to Wal-Mart and your local shopping centres where you will empty your bank accounts in the name "freedom."

Another example of a good law gone to the crapper.

Thank God it expires!

At least we had the foresight to make sure that it didn't last forever. I hope its not quietly extended without any public knowledge. What's the timeframe on that thing? 2005?
