Thumbs up My next car purchase ...............

Will be one of these.....

As soon as I can find one worthy of restoration. And one that's within a close proximity to my home. Have any of you ever owned one?

I have a couple of friends who have the Meyers Manx version which are quite pricey. I'll settle for the replica.

A replica of a kit-car..!?

So first someone makes something else out of something. Then someone else is making something similar, but out of something different than the first 'something else'..? How weird is that?

Enough rambling.. Nice Buggy! They are a blast to drive. If the engine is tuned well, this butt-heavy fiberglass thing will lift the front wheels in the air at launch. -Always catches some attention.

If you go to you local newstand or supermarket and get an issue of HotVWs then it will have numerous ads for the fiberglass bodies for the Manx look alikes. I have never had a Manx but I have had a lot of experience with Air Cooled Volkswagens and have many connections. If you are willing to travel to Oregon, I already know of one fiberglass buggy body.

240,

Thanks...I'm actually searching for one that has already been mounted on a chassis. I've found a few, just waiting for the right one. Most of the ones I've found are Manx clones.

Paul,

Thanks for posting the cool pic. The pics a little fuzzy so I can't make out the motor. I tend to like the VW air-cooled, simply because they are so easy and cheap to work on. I'm not too familiar with the rear mounted engine in a corvair. I'm sure it would be a bit more pepi though. On the other hand my friend Mike has a 2110cc motor in his manx thats pretty nasty.

There's one of those "Things" sitting in a apartment parking lot near where I work. Looks in good shape, but I never see it move. I'd love to snag it!

My grandfather had two of those Volkswagen Things. I'm not sure if he has them anymore or what. They used to sit in our backyard. I haven't seen them in quite sometime. He must have moved them somewhere else when he got mad because my older brother BB'd the windshield and cracked it.

Too bad they didn't send any to the U.S. with a diesel engine (that's if they even had a diesel engine for the European models)

Nope, only gas. A long time ago my buddy had one painted like a zebra and 33 inch tires. That thing was crazy
