I remember, ours seemed porous... like the more you washed them the more brake dust came out. My Saturn VUE is kinda the same way; when cleaning the wheels, it takes forever because brake dust runs down the wheels from inside.

I don't like them on 126's but I really like the Bundts on my 83 240D. I can't stand hubcaps, they always want to fall off!! I ditched my painted hubcaps for a set of Bundt rims off a TD.

I love them, and MUCH prefer them to the 15-hole wheels...I like the old steel-wheel and hubcap setup too....

I think the chromes look great on the black 6.3 on that website...I also know a guy with a black 4.5 with a set of them on it...very nice.

I have some aftermarket chrome "bundt" style wheels on my 300SD. I think they look better, but some freshly painted ones look great on the 300D as well.

Sporty? No, but we're not exactly talking about "sporty" cars, either! Elegant?...I guess that's a matter of opinion, because I think they look quite elegant, especially in chrome.

Why not use dustless pads and then you will have a minimum of cleaning to perform.

Use a chemical wheel cleaner and wash the black dust right off, or am I missing something?

i loooooove them

come guys, let's be fair and do an appropriate design analysis of the bundts.

they are gorgeous. not only are they cosmetically attractive, but they are practical for funneling air to the brake pads.

they are a peice of cake to clean as long as you care for them. if you have any clear coat left, the dust should easily wipe off with a dry towell even.

i hate bundts design if they are not in good shape, then yes, they are ugly. but let's repaint your rims if you need it! and take pride in these beauties. i repainted mine and for some reason, i don't know why, i have 15"s

regards

I like them when they are fitted to a car of the appropriate age. For me they are a design classic approaching the status of the Fuchs wheel fitted to Porsche 911s. They are the authentic wheels for a MB car of that period. There is nothing worse than seeing 8-hole wheels available only from 1993 fitted to a 1979 car IMHO.

For some reasons chrome wheels look ok in the US but terrible in Europe. Nobody has them here. Personally I would keep my car German to the core; get rid of those big bumpers too!

But then I like my cars to be utterly stock.

Strange, that most Europeans are not big fans of chromed wheels. Must just be an "American thing". I LOVE them. I like my aftermarket bundt wheels with the chrome...I just think it matches the car better, since there's so much chrome on it anyway...nothing else on the car is "painted silver". On some cars it works, on some it doesn't.

I agree about the "old-style wheels on new cars", and "new-style wheels on old cars" thing....I've seen it look good occasionally, but usually not.

As far as 8 hole wheels....they shoudlnt go anywhere older than on a 126......they look good on it i admit.

Im slowly getting used to these bundt wheels on the car.

From my understanding, chrome wheels are illegal by law in Germany, and probably other European countries as well. That's why you don't see them on cars in Germany.

Cheers,

Thumbs up

I dig bundts, esp. on the W126/123. My prior 280E (now my bro's car) has them and they're stylin'. Totally classic and they suit those cars well.

Mike - normally I'm not big on any chrome wheels, but the ones of your 300SD look great! They totally suit the car. Nice!
