Has anyone else noticed Starbucks' quality taking a dive?

It must be all of those "out placed" programmers and other professionals trying to do the job of a barista. :p

Has anyone else on the forum had to train or assist highly educated professionals in tasks that they feel is beneath them?

Rarely visit Starbucks unless I'm in Barnes & Noble. My favorite coffee shop is a local, CC's. But my favorite coffee is what we french drip at home--CDM coffee. Dark roasted with chickory and a big dollop of Half-n-Half. MMmmmm-mmMM!

---------------------

Nah, but I've been on the receiving end twice. Though hopefully, I didn't always have that particularly obnoxious attitude of something being beneath me. Golly, a self-important whiner. I'd encourage folks like that to seek more challenging opportunities elsewhere....

My worst comeuppance was when I had been a surveyor for several years and lost everything and had to take a job catching chickens for "Country Pride" so I could pay for school. Oh yeah, then I graduated to working in the rendering plant. That was the only job I've ever been fired from. I wouldn't wade into the gut tank to retrieve a tool my boss had dropped. We all have our little lines in the sand, don't we?

More recently I switched from ecological research to mapping. I ask too many questions. Its sure no fun for the various mentors. Especially since they were essentially training me to be their boss. But we all got over it, I guess even the guy who quit got over it....didn't come back to the office with an AK.

I guess we're getting off topic here, but I started the thread so I'm entitled, right?

I've always asked a lot of questions. Ten years ago I started my career in television after having only one semester of it in school. I didn't plan to get into television; it was a chance thing.

I knew early on that if I didn't ask a lot of questions and learn on the job quickly, I'd be out of a job. So I just jumped in full force. I think the first couple months I worked my regular 45 hours and put in an additional 25 hours or so voluntarily just to get the experience. It paid off big time. Higher ups noticed my willingness to work hard and took me off the overnight shift (merely playing show tapes for air). I was lucky enough to have mentors that didn't feel threatened and who helped me greatly. I learned a lot and rose to senior director before the network went under three years ago. (In all honesty, some of that rise was due to attrition of other directors, but I wouldn't have gotten the more important programs if I couldn't handle them.)

Boy! I just rambled on and on, didn't I.....

I never really thought Starbuck's was all that great

That's why 90% of all their coffee is masked with some sort of syrup, flavoring, whipped cream etc. Of all the chain coffee shops, I find that Peet's is by far the best tasting cup of BLACK coffee!
