Thumbs up winter hits ATL this AM, review of my new vent-free gas logs

atlanta was 80degF wed afternoon, will be < 32F this AM.

i got a great (read shady) deal on a set of new vent-free gas logs near the end of winter last year. i was traveling most of the time, so didnt get to use them alot. i chased the critters out of the gas pipe and fired them up again this evening. my evaluation (from last year) is this:

i enjoy a real wood fire as much as anyone, but ...

these vent-frees are GREAT! flue stays closed, heat stays in!
pilot light circuit means instant starting and heat.

they smelled for about an hour the 1st time fired burning off the paint/finish (flue open!), and since the initial burnoff, you cant smell any odor (especially compared to a wood fire) with the flue closed tight.

highly recommended alternative/additional heat source.

Turn that darn laptop off!! I can't see anything with that glare!!
Actually I had considered that same route. My wife has bronchial asthma and starts coughing when smoke gets out of the fireplace.

Now, if I can overcome MY phobia of getting poisoned or blowing myself to kingdom come.............
