I was in class. The teachers were asked to go to the principal's office. Mrs. Geistwhite came back to class in tears and told us. Some kids cheered because their parents had told them that integration was bad and that Kennedy was responsible.

Most kids wept or stared in disbelief. Mrs. Geistwhite led us in prayer and then we recited the 23 psalm.

It was a public school.

The other day in my History class at OSU we discussed the Kennedy assasination. Everything from the person he was, the politician/president, and the assasination of him as well. Kinda eery seeing his head projected on a large big screen and seeing the bullet enter in slow motion. Anyways...
From the readings I have read, he didn't seem likely to be re-elected as a President and was only made to be what he is because of his death. What are your oppinions?

His main claims to fame were the Bay of Pigs and Marilyn Monroe. His reputation was of a man afraid to take a position because he had won the presidency by such a narrow margin. As to whether he would have won a second term -- who knows? Bill Clinton did, so I guess anything's possible.

Most people think his greatest action as president was the Missle Crisis. I don't disagree he handled an extremely dangerous situation with great care and a very useful mix of secret and public machinations.

Nearly as important was his growing support of the expanding civil rights issue. He helped change the way we view racial issues in the USA. With 20/20 hindsight it seasy to say there were better paths he should have taken. That may be true. But he chose a from which every president since Lincoln has cowered. He did the right thing even though it would likely have cost him his reelection.

I also like his tax cut. I'd like another one of those, too.

His downsides were grave, the Bay of Pigs invasion, the unwarranted build-up of troops in Vietnam and complicity in the assassination of the So Vietnamese president. What a way to encourage democracy.

I was watching this the other evening. There must be some new episodes as I do not remember seeing some of this. In particular was the one inplicating LBJ. I was unaware of the number of murders that surrounded his career. I had heard people whispering about how LBJ was responsible, but I never saw anything to document that charge. On this episode there was LBJ's lawyer saying he was sure that LBJ was involved!

On the other hand, it is rare for a conspiracy to last this long without people telling deathbed confessions.

I saw that.. a great show. The other night it had a show on Oswald where they showed the theory he was the only shooter. Also an interesting show.

Anyone know anything on the French mafia that were rumored to want Kennedy dead? I am curious as to that theory as well.
