The radio stations here have been playing songs off it for a couple weeks now. It sure sounds different. I'm probably not the best judge though, since I find beatles music just short of totally boring. So to me, this "new" album is even more boring, if that's possible. It sounds empty, like somethings missing. Which it is. For all the whack-o Phil Spector is/was, he did know how to add sound to music.

I've heard a couple tracks and for a historical perspective, will probably get the CD. For those who have sat behind a board and mixed, punched in, overdubbed, cross-faded and blistered your fingers on a parametric eq . . . its a good study on production styles and the "artistic" input and value of producers and, as one musician said, "the guys in the band that don't get the chicks."

Phil Spector was well known in the 60's for producing artists' albums. He invented what became the "wall of sound" sound. Most music in the 60's was rather bleak. Just a guitar, drums, maybe a bass, and vocals. Phill would add in all kinds of background orchestrations and echo effects, essentially filling in the whole wall of sound.
He produced the Beatles "Let It be" album(or whatever it was called), doing his "thing" to it. What has been released now is the origional recordings, before Phil's special touch. It really sounds stark compared to what we grew up listening to.
Phil was also known to be a real ********* to work with. He produced one of the Ramones albums, and I guess they spent hours just getting the opening chord of one of the songs just right. And he was not easy to live with. He got the Ronnettes start, and married thier lead singer Ronnie. She was a virtual prisoner in her home, and had to run away to get away from him.
Do a search on him. there's lotsa info on him. Right now he's going thru a court battle, accused of murder I think it is.

Rick, I grew up listening to Phil's influence and am well aware of who is is. I just thought it funny the way you said he added sound to music , as if music never had sound until he came along.

Was anything added back in to any of the tracks? I know Paul had a slightly different vision for "Long and Winding Road". Did he get his way this time around?

I'll put Tom Dowd up against Phil Spector any day.

"By stripping away the decorative layers applied to some of the tracks this special edition reveals LET IT BE as it was meant to be."

"Its just the bare tapes: just the bare truth and the great thing now about the re-mixed versions is that, with today's technology, they sound better than ever."

Excepts from the Cover.

The album is fine - with its new digital re-mastering. It sure sounds much better than the previous analog releases. But no, I don't think they have this in LP - not at least in Malaysia.

It has 11 songs in it - and they stand out as if they were "unplugged" - only if there were. You get the seasonned feeling it was just done yesterday.

Unless you were / are a real Beatle fan, you'd add this to your collection.

For me, it was a choice of owning a piece of Pop History.

It would have been great if ABBA had an unplugged version though ... *sigh*
