I have sirius and am not happy at all, this article spells it out.

You have XM

I want to get XM Radio so bad, but not in the best of stability right now to get it, maybe for a Christmas present, yeah right..
What station(s) do you listen to? My brothers' have XM as does my dad; I prefer Hanks Place channel 13, nothing better than some good 'ol classic country music! One of my brothers' and my dad listen to channel 6 (60's on 6) I like the music I just don't like the selection they play, oh well at least you get to listen to most of the programming without commercials!

Glad I got XM!! And, since I pre-paid for two years, I get it for about $8.00 a month instead of nearly $10.00! What's more, most of the "stations" I listen to on XM don't have any commercials at all. It's usually three weeks or so before I'll hear one commercial at all!

My favorite channels are:

Finetuning
XM Cafe
Cinemagic
Real Jazz
Deeptracks
Top Tracks

If you want literaly CD quality sound rather than just great FM reception from either XM or Sirius, go to La Jolla Audio's Website .

They offer a hardwire kit so you have genuine CD quality sound from your satellite radio. It's reasonably priced and you dont' have to live in CA to have it done. The guys out there are great! I got it earlier this year and it's fantastic. :)

I had XM in my W124. I loved it!!!! I stopped listening to CD's, I had the latest beats, all in CD format (not cut out, mixed, spoken over etc). I miss it so much!!! I've spent all my money int he car in other stuff that I don 't even have a cool stereo system going on, nor XM. I'm going through widthdrawal!

Howdy All,
A friend has XM and says it is great!¡ You guys that have it, what make is yours?¿ Sure would be nice to get "Hanks Place":)

sfloriII 11-27-2003 01:02 AM

Mine is the Pioneer model GEX-FM909SM which I chose because the hand-held display was the smallest.

The good: it's small enough to hide easily and keep in your lab for easy access

The bad: Since it's so small, song titles and artists' names are often cut off.

Otherwise happy with it.

I'm not sure they sell this model anymore, though.

I have XM in three of my vehicles and it is great. I can't imagine being without it for even a day. I too haven't purchased a CD since I installed XM in my car and that has been over two years ago.

Actually, I had it in my truck, it was the Sony Plug and Play model. It was alright except for having to put the adhesive on the dash, now I don't want to take it off. But since I got my car, I couldn't use it because it already had a CD player in it, so that's the one my dad has now. I will have to buy another CD player that's XM ready. And yeah sure, all I listened to was Hank's Place, and as soon as I get it I will listen to it now. For now I keep my self occupied with Hank Williams Sr. and Bob Wills & The Texas Playboys CD, lol. Its some great music, I like the cowbells.:p

I have a Panasonic Sirius unit and hate it I'm taking it back and going XM Monday.

tabasco85331 11-28-2003 10:16 AM

Hated my XM. Took it back.

Yes, it has many music channels, but the smooth jazz channel (and all the rest) play EVERY obscure song ever written! Lots of stuff that NOBODY has ever heard of. Rather listen to CDs, where I make the choice.

sfloriII 11-28-2003 07:44 PM

That's funny, because the obscurity of many of the songs/pieces is one of the things I like most about XM radio. If I want to hear pop/mainstream, I'll just turn on FM. I've never been a big fan of "mainstream" sounding music anyway and I've always made out big-time at record stores by shopping in the clearance bin! :D

I've also now discovered many artists I wouldn't have known of otherwise. I hear a song I like, I write down the artist and song title in my PDA for referrence. :)

exactly!!!

I don't wanna be listening to what everyone else is!

tabasco85331 11-30-2003 05:52 PM

It's still radio...

If you don't mind listening to a programmed list of music that didn't sound like it was even compiled in many cases by an expert of the genres offered. Watercolors, the smooth jazz channel, included much easy listening and soft rock that certainly wasn't jazz, but "lumped in as filler". Commercials too. I'm paying to listen to commercials? Something that was advertised as a better alternative to FM radio, isn't. Same thing, just rehashed, only you're paying now. The sound quality wasn't very good either, but i'm pretty picky. I prefer to be my own programmer. To each his own.
