anybody know anything about MIL SPEC finishes?
 

I remember watching A show on speed channel I think it was american thunder? I think, anyways they were showing this custom bike that had this *****en grey looking MIL SPEC finish on the parts it looked really good but weird on the other hand. just wondering if any of you have heard of this sfuff, wonder what it would look like on all the chrome trim on A 123 series? kinda give an anti chrome look what da ya think?:)

Many types of "mil" coatings that are grey, but most likely was parkerized or grey phosphating.

There's also grey Bearcoat (industrial Teflon-S weapons finishes, pretty much cured the jamming barretts during GW1), but it would be quite expensive to do a set of rims.

"Mil-Spec" finishing usually takes a commercially available coating process and makes it expensive. The process is usually the same but he documentation and quality control drives up the cost.

For example a Gold Iridite finish at a machine shop is usually almost free. Make it a "Mil-Spec" finish and the lot charge goes to 60 bucks in the same baths with the same process.

The finish may also been a acid etch or anodized grey depending on the metal. It may have also been powder coated grey to give it the gun metal finish apearance.
