How Many Hours...

can you spend on your computer before you develop eyestrain and headache? How long does it usually take your eyes to recover. Also, state your age.

A lot. But I work in television and look at monitors most of the day anyway.

I'd say four hours straight would be my limit. It rarely makes my eyes hurt, but once it does, nothing except lying down and closing my eyes helps.

I'm the ripe "young" age of 38.

47, and after a day (8 hrs) at my computer my eyes are very tired. By the time I went home yesterday I couldn't hardly look at the moniter anymore. I shut it down 15 min early.

I have a fairly good moniter at work, not sure of the specs and all though. It may have a lot to do with what I do also. Doing CAD work involves alot of detail stuff, sitting and staring at the moniter trying to figure things out, zoom in, zoom out, blah, blah. But I have an LCD moniter at home, and I do agree it's alot better to work with. If I could just get them to buy me an 18" LCD moniter at work

Talking

I print out as much as possible on paper (I know! - tree killer) but I just can't read and make assessments on the 'TV' screen. I need to write notes on just about everything I read and I can't do that without printing it. I'm 45 BTW - old fashioned too - I'm told. Computers can fill a room with data in 2 seconds but someone still has to sift through it all and make conclusions. To answer your original question: I can't look at a monitor for more than 1 hour without eye strain, any type monitor. The headache comes from the data I'm evaluating usually.
