OMG: The first time I have wanted a Mustang since '71...

And I was born in 1983.

The 2005 Mustang concept is just phenomenal. I would buy this car. I dont know if I would give up my Benz for it, but I would sure as hell think about it depending upon how it drove.

It's a looker allright. For my type of driving though, I'd hate it in short order, assuming of course I had a snowball's chance in hell in acutally getting in and out of it.

As much as I hate Fords, I would actually buy one of these.

I will buy one if it turns out to be a nice driveing car. When I get out of school and start makeing some money. It looks really good, I want one in blue with two white raceing strips. Then let Carroll Shelby's company play with the suspension and engine. I hope someone starts raceing them, we could show those Italians what American cars can do! Shelby schooled Ferrari once maybe Saleen could do it again!

It's sharp all right but I wonder if it can handle as well as the SVO I had back in '84. I replaced it with a '85 GT (after I totalled it )and the GT would go real fast but understeered like crazy until the rear decided to swap ends. The SVO had the turbo 4 cylinder with an intercooler , hurst shifter , 4 wheel discs and 16"wheels when only the Porsche and Vette had them. I saw 135 mph in that car and only my Benz (the 124) feels as good at high speed as that SVO did.I think I'll save my money for go-fast goodies for the CE.

without the rear spoiler, it looks like one of those vintage, hand-formed Aston Martins ...

An article said that the big 3 are loosing money with every car they sell. The manufacturer’s claim that due to competition, no interest loans, and inability to profitably make a car, the big 3 have lost ground to Asian manufacturers. The article goes on to say that at least some of the big 3 should be shut down rather than continue to loose money. Currently trucks are the primary money makers. Yet the Asian manufacturers have made strong and continuing inroads to the truck market as well as dominating the car market.

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/businesstechnology/2001830429_autos06.html

The current spate of new models being rolled out by all the car makers is intended to revive interest. Most are flashy niche cars and despite all efforts, no one is making a car as good as a Camry.

Is it yet another sign of our manufacturing process failing to compete? Or just the lingering process of keeping the doors open for car makers during this long recession?

Oh, yeah. I posted this here as the aricle features the new 'stang....

The reason the Camry is a good selling car is it is reliable and cheap to run. You can buy a nice one new for 20k drive it for 10 years and 100k miles with only basic care, then sell it for 5k to another person who could put another 100k on it with few if any problems. Then sell it for 1k to someone who drives it till it dies. I would never think of buying an American car with 100k on it if I wanted a nice car. The big 3 have yet to figure this out. That is why they cannot compete in this segment.

i agree with what some of was said but all cars boil down to maintance...back in our road trip days our 88 aerostar had 275 thousand and my bestfriends caravan had 400 thousand with original tranny and motor...my winter beater 91 escort has 215 thousand on that and it doesnt use oil...i will agree that america needs to make better looking cars with new technology and they are working on that...as far as losing money on cars - they do that too...but americans need to see the degree of bad effect that this has on us now that toyota is number two and they want to take over GM...this is a never ending debate.-Jake
as far as the Mustang we own 4 right now and a 2005 is on list Detroit bound to visit friends and see it at NAIAS!!!! to sit in the show cas was awesome (and see and hear it move)...i hope the production is 85 percent as nice!

Whats boggles me is GM owns Opel, some of the best looking cars around, and they dont sell them here. Holden too. Even some Fords in Europe arent here, are much better than the garbage they are selling. This new ford, well, I dont like Ford anyway but if it turns to be another dumb-blonde car that she got from daddy, then I doubt most men will buy it. But it does look less feminine.

The Mustang is what it is. A relatively cheap sporty looking car that can fit the bill of anything from cartin' Cathy to college to a full blown race car. It is by no means an exclusive car, but there is as much difference in the high and low end as night and day.
One of the reasons for the enormous popularity of the pony is that average people can afford to mod them up to a comfortable level. They are also disposable, but the ones that survive continue to spark interest in the breed. I saw a Mustang II not long ago that was sharp as a tack.
I curse the day that I sold my 69 Mach 1.
The halo cars coming out of Detroit now are showing the world that at least they haven't lost touch with the car buying public that needs more than shiney metal boxes.

GM did sell an "Opel" recently, it was known as the Catera here. Also Pontiac is planning on bringing a variant of the Ausie Holden soon to the US. It's going to be the new GTO. It'll put the new Mustang to shame performance-wise since it'll be powered by a Vette engine. As far as looks goes though, it'll put itself to shame. It'll be a sacrilege to put the GTO name on it.

Great looking car!! I like the thorwback look to the sixties.

I agree with others: the Mustang will likely be pretty fast off the line, but how good will its driveablity be?
