I love having a reference library at my fingertips--my job requires it.
I also like engaging in discussions with a variety of interesting characters, many of whom I'd never voluntarily choose to interact with in the 'real' world. There's value in the measured distance the virtual world affords, often promoting a more vigorous exploration of ideas and topics than our social norms typically allow--this occasionally breaks down too... |

Because of the Internet I don't really need the post office anymore.

Everyone has pointed to great aspects of the internet. When troubleshooting mechanical problems on a site like this, I think of the net as a giant brain with far more experience than my simple brain. Everyone's mechanical experiences combine into a giant hypothesis machine that is far more powerful than each of our minds on their own.
I guess now that I think of it, it is kind of like a metaphor for the value of libertarian socialism over capitalism

Favorite sites (not necessarily in any order):
Google.com MercedesShop.com (and FastLane, who has some of my money) MusiciansFriend.com (who has the rest) Online banking and any online service that allows you to renew, order, or register instead of waiting in a long line to do the same in some stuffy building...

Working from home.
Instead of driving into town I can work, take a break in the garden, work some more, stare into space, and work in the evening if I have to to catch up with my loafing around. The time management freedom is great, but it depends on your employer of course. Some see it as an excuse to dodge work, but the smarter ones realise its results that matter, not how they are acheived. Anyone else do this, or is not Calvinist enough for you? (If you aren't working 80 hours a week you are a lazy slob, etc).

Only one??? I tried to summarize....but there are just sooo many best things. As Kerry said the synergy, as Z said, the resources, as jjl said, the freedom and power, plus the ability to share, plus online banking, real-time stock tracking and trading, up to the minute news, the ability to share in an extended family spanning the globe, to learn so much from so many. I would have to say, in brief, the web brings us all closer. Even binds us together. I'm delighted and in awe to live in this time of unimaginable transition. The web has and continues to bring about more change for the people of our planet than the invention of movable type. I sometimes wonder what the next generation will bring to this horn of plenty we call the web! I can’t wait to find out!!!!

In case you didn't notice, this poll contained check boxes, not radio buttons. So you could vote for more than one. I voted for the first 4 things yesterday.

I am absolutely SHOCKED at how many of you checked off "Porn and it's variations".
2nd only to car enthusiast forums. I don't think there are many moral people on this board. Wow, and yet you all seem so mature! You can't fight that primal instinct to mate, and consequentially procreate.
