Why I love the WSJ

Todays' edition, 01/07/04, of the Wall Street Journal succeeded in reinforcing the reason why I read the Journal. I have been a subscriber for more years than I care to remember and have at times been a bit dissappointed with their presentations of certain subjects, but today, IMHO, was a stellar piece. Starting on the front page with articles about older folks who take care of older disabled children, which tore at my heart, to Japanese baseball players being out of work was just a beginning. A beautiful look at Pete Rose on the op-ed page gives you food for though on that subject. Second section, front page had a look back at what was considered "the norm", in 1954, along with the problems facing the Panama Canal in the coming years. And who can forget the overpaid departing CEO's, and the severence pays they were blessed with,,, it's all there. Section D will tell you how easy it is to get a first class seat on a plane for less money than coach, and how fraud is driving up your insurance premiums. And don't forget the info on your new digital music player, how to fix the college playoff snafu and on and on,,,,,,,. In other words, I can't even begin to figure out the financial section, but have always appreciated who I think are the best writers on the planet, and of course share my political opinions, on the op-ed page at least.

I too am surprised by the contents most times. It is also the best newspaper to start the wood stove with because it is very wide and the paper quality is good.

Is there a way I can get the article on the plane seats from the 7th? My copy is already gone.

I agree that the paper quality is absolutley first class, just like the rest of the paper.

And except for the unsightly ink smears, quite gentle on your butt...

I've read the WSJ on-line Opinion Journel daily for several years. They aren't afraid "to call a spade a spade". Maybe it is time to get a full subscription. What I like best is that there is no local news nor do they spend much time on the story de jour. What they write is timeless.
