Can someone please translate this?

Let's tip over another one.
I don't get it. Maybe my translation is bad. The transliteration from Google language tools is, "Let us times again one tilt!" There's gotta be some native German speakers somewhere around here. |

I was going to find a translator somewhere on the web to try it for myself, but I think I can maybe make a little sense of it.
Remember about 4 or 5 years ago, there was that big deal in Europe about how unsafe one of those small Euro Benzes were? I think it was the A-Class. They failed what I believe was called the Moose Avoidance test, possibly this was a test conducted in northern Europe, I think Sweden? I think the cartoon probably is refering to that, the A Class cars were rolling or "tipping" over during that test. They redesigned the car after that, made it wider and I think lowered the center of gravity. Gilly

Since the moose in the cartoon have drinks in their "hands", I assume it's also relating "tipping back a few" with tipping a car during the test. It was quite a big news item, it made the network news here in the US even!

Thanks Stefano. There was some guy that used to be here that gave me a rash of "crap" about one or a few of my answers to one of his problems. I gave a real short answer about maybe checking his owners manual first, and boy he really hated to be told to do that! Blew up on me and called me names, questioned my legitimacy as a mod, etc. And that was one line in that rant, "you go against the rules of moderating". HEY! I LIKE that!
Yup, that's me!! Webmaster didn't like the whole scene and got rid of the guy. Before that happened, I was really trying to get an answer to the guys problem. I'm just an old softy I guess. Gilly ps I can't remember if I told you I did eventually find that part for my jukebox, I real nice used one here in the US. Now a place in Germany says they are going to reproduce them.

Gilly, you are right about the cartoon:
"Lass uns einen kippen" refers to the Moose avoidance desaster which happend to the brand new A-Klasse in 1997. A swedish journalist tippted over a brand new car and the safety of the Mercedes was seriously questioned. Here is the whole story (sorry, only in german) One of the biggest public relations success story... Here is a pic of the event: http://www.elchfans.de/images/geschichte/aumfall.jpg[/IMG] "Lass uns einen kippen" also means to invite somebody to have a few drinks. Many jokes were made about the new A-Klasse at that time: [IMG] B.t.w: Mercedes was able to turn around public opinion by improving the product and have journalists be able to see the progress. They invited 450 of them to a test track in spain and showed the problem and the necessary steps to fix it. They also had an ad in all the newspapers showing Boris Becker with the claim: "You are strong, when you don't make any mistakes. Your are even stronger, when you learn from your mistakes" Anyway, the A-Klasse was very successfull the following years. Kind regards Eberhard |
