Yup!!! It's a black BMW 2000 Automatic. weird headrests!

jjl 01-23-2004 06:36 PM

I'm envious. Some of those look salvageable..the W108 (is it a 108?) in the first pic is a beaut..pity I'm 3500 miles away.

btw, because of the weak dollar US cars, including vintage MB's appear very, very inexpensive at the moment from outside the US. There is probably a business opportunity in exporting to Europe.

It is like being a kid going to a candy store?

Is the yard owner selling parts too, or just whole cars? Would love to find some mid '60s Mercedes 14" rims that would fit my small hubcaps.

Happy Motoring, Mark

mark, many of them are definitely just parts cars. most of them are in fact. which ones were you thinking? one of those fintails? i know that the light blue fintail is not a parts car. but the rust fintail and the cream fintail are both parts i believe.

Mark DiSilvestro 01-25-2004 02:15 PM

Eric,
What I'd like (If I had a magic wand) would be a set of 14 inch rims, as fitted to the 230/250 SL or W108 250S/SE before '68. Until '68 those 14 inch rims had the little 'nubs' to secure the small hubcaps.
All Fintails came stock with 13 inch rims and I'm now having some difficulty finding decent 13 inch replacement tires.

Are these pictures from the 'Rotten Rolls Register"?
Wish I had a way to post photos of my friend's decaying 47 Rolls Silver Wraith. (Especially last winter, buried under a five foot snowdrift!)

Happy Motoring, Mark

william rogers 01-25-2004 06:26 PM

Not sure where I found the two Rolls photos I have a large file of car photos. Going to a good junkyard ranks right up there with finding an unfished section of trout stream as the best way to spend an afternnon that I can think of...........

WANT '71 280SEL 01-25-2004 11:52 PM

Peyton, what is the light blue fintail? (model). Is it really rusty/how much does he generally ask for cars like that. Is he one of those guys that thinks "old mercedes, worth a fortune?" I would LOVE to get my greedy hands on a fintail. Especially one like a 190 or 200 gas. So simple, it makes my lawn mower look sophisticated. At least the mower has more wires.
Thanks
David

Hey david, the blue fintail is in good shape. there doesn't seem to be a LOT of surface rust on the exterior, but there's no telling what you'd find if you really gave it a good look over.

and yea, that's my mechanic's car he's had for ages and he's somewhat attached to it. like anything, it is for sale for the right price, but im sure he wants a lot. i expressed interest in it at one point and he wanted more than i would pay.

WANT '71 280SEL 01-27-2004 05:18 PM

I guess I shouldn't ask then? If I was stupid enough to ask, what would the answer be? Were there any other fintails that weren't too terribly rusted. I can live with rust, heck, I drive a 116! As l;ong as floors are solid and there isn't a lot of visible rust, I am game. I don't need much of a trunk! I would only really want a small gas.
Thanks
David

i think the light blue would be around $6K-$7K, and for that you can find a much nicer one.

Peyton300TD 02-23-2004 11:19 PM

okay my mechanic said he'd entertain calls from you all about parts and cars for sale.

he has fintails, 70's 200's and 300's, 4.5's, etc.

also has several for sale including 240D's and a fintail, 220's.

here is his contact info

sorry i initially posted the wrong info

mzsmbs 03-02-2004 01:15 PM

You can also check their site

And yup he has a bunch of these oldies 4 sale. Pretty cheap/reasonable for parts cars that actually run - some are in pretty decent shape (the 108 and the fintail.) Very friendly folks there so check'em out and get it while getting's good. The cars have to go soon....Hurry!
