Oh my.....so THATS what a W126 is supposed to be ? I'm liking them more and more.

There is an '85 SD(with ABS even...) with a good body and noisy (clunky noise from inside the motor when running... blue w/ tan seats for sale not far from me. Owner will cut a "deal" b/c of the noisy motor and I've been debating making a "project" out of it. No records or history though, he never looked into why the glow plug light never lit up, he just hit the starter (and I assume she did too...)...which makes me more wary. He said that his now ex-wife used to drive it...which makes me even more wary. I'm also trying to stay awya from automatic transmissions too (yeah, its a 240 for me someday...)

ABS (big in my book), Leather, memory seats, sunroof, room in the back for real humans...lemmie check on autotrader and make sure its still there.

On topic- NICE looking W126...in TN also (not as far from me as Florida)

Hold on a second... (after waxing poetic in my previous post)

the seller writes,

"and they later released a five cylinder in 1990 for the E class, but this was the last of the old tried and true five"

I understand that he is saying that his car (a 1984 W126) did have the OM617.95x, the "last of the old tried and true five" but I've never heard of a 5cyl diesel after 1985.
When did MB make a 5cyl after 1985? I assume he's talking about the W124 (E-class). I thought all the diesel w124's were the OM603.xxx (?), the 6 cyl, turbo'd in the 1987 version (complete w/ alloy head) and N/A every other time. offered in 3.5l versions later on ?
They didnt bring the OM617 back for a year did they ?

rickg- the last time I heard that kinda clunk from a 617 was before it seized after being oil starved (damn oil cooler hose) too many times. Happened to my 1st 300D, I've learned since then.
lesson 1 - you get what you pay for
lesson 2 - Always make sure that oil cooler line is in good condition, hose clamps and radiator hose will not fix it.

Yeah, its is a diesel, and supposed to sound klunky, but I dont think this one is doing well. My diesel sound knowledge is not as good as many though...

The OM602 in the 1991-1993 300D 2.5 Turbo. Was called a 250D in other countries.

Then there's the current 5 cylinder, OM612 I think, found in the Sprinter van.
