Billions of tax cut for elites and wars, but nothing for AMERICAN public safety.
We have a president and his advisors who have completely lost their mind....
"Buried in documents justifying Bush's 2005 budget proposal released Monday is an Environmental Protection Agency acknowledgment that his proposed cut "represents complete elimination of homeland security building decontamination research." http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/02/05/ricin.bush.ap/index.html |

Federalism.
State issues are handled by states, national issues are handled by the Fed. Well, that was the theory until 1861. In fits and starts, the Supreme Court, since Reagan, has slowly reasserted federalism by deferring to states on several landmark issues. Curiously, the Court did a 180 on the Flrodia hanging chad suit and contravened the written word of the constitution which says that states shall establish the time and method of voting. Couldn't have been politics, naaah. If your local law enforcement isn't doing a good job of safety for you, talk to your mayor and governor. Botnst |

Dear Mr. Bosnt:
You probably missed the important point here. This is about a complete elimination of funding for "building decontamination RESEARCH". There are many kinds of toxins (chemical and biological), and each type requires a different removal technique. The scientific research was intended to concoct efficient techniques for their removal. When Bush spent hundreds of billions for elites' tax cut and a crazy war, and then talked about extremely expensive and gigantic projects such as Moon and Mars colonization while getting parsimonious of securing a tiny $8 million (compared to hundreds of billions) for such an important research. This is about protecting American public from a clear and present danger. Bush's short-sighted vision also caused NASA to almost scrap the Hubble Space Telescope Project. Thankfully, the decision to cancel the servicing mission for Hubble Telescope is being reviewed again. The HSTP has provided significant insight and knowledge for astronomy in particular and for science in general. We have to live for the present first before thinking about how to live in the very far future. Compassionate conservatism means "I don't give anything or anyone a dang." |

I guess your priorities would be different from the current admins? Mine too. I'd spend lots of money tracking and killing al queda and like Narwhal said, securing the border. I'd let people pay their own way for meds. I'd let people pay for their own retirement. I'd make states pay for their own educational programs and roads. I'd cut taxes even more because if my other prgms were enacted we'd not need all the extra cash floating around Washington waiting for some fatcat to spend it on some more pork. Everyone deserves a tax cut because it's their money.
I don't want to hear about the rich not deserving the tax cuts, either. The IRS reports that the top 1% income earners in this country pay 35% of income taxes received. The top 10% income earners pay 50% of income taxes received.

Schroeder becomes a Republican
Gonna take care of everybody and everything by making people pay directly for benefits they will receive. This should be an interesting adjustment for eurosocialists.

Jeezus B, don't forget that the "Third-Way" politics of Schroeder, Blair and Clinton IS the Republican way. With 'friends' like them, who needs Republicans? It's just one big conservative party of privilege and power.
Schroeder had to step down as leader of the Soc. Dems in part, cuz his politics are so unpopular with others within the party. Interestingly, Joschka Fischer, his Green Party Foreign Minister is far more popular throughout Germany than he is. |
