Imagine:

No waxing needed...just wash or touch up with Windex.

Impervious to rock pitting, chipping and door dings!

Curb weight an additional 250 kg.

Running the A/C all day and the car NEVER cools!

Sitting a (plastic) bag of groceries on the trunk on a hot day and having it stick!

No need for cosmetic mirrors in the visors.

Other people driving by your car in order to watch themselves drive by in their cars...

Actually, since chrome is highly reflective, it would be cooler inside.

That's why black cars are so damned hot in the summer--it absorbs the light/heat.

Well, actually it is not photoshopped. Dietmar Henneka doesn't need to do cheating.

The cars got covered by a reflective material.

Kind regards
Eberhard

Yes, you can get mirrored mylar with adhesive, and it's pretty convincing looking if applied correctly...not as durable as the real thing, of course...

I've seen a couple of Harley Davidsons that were completely chromed....fenders, tank, frame, everything. Very cool.

Years ago, my dad was quality control supervisor at a factory that mass-produced cast zinc parts such as door handles, knobs, mirror frames, etc., and chrome plated them. They ran the plating line 24-7, so we could go in there after-hours and use the buffers and other equipment to prep parts, and hang them on the machine to be plated along with the regular parts. I had a nice red 79 Camaro at the time, and we pulled TONS of parts off that car and plated them! Valve covers, all the accessory brackets, the engine compartment corner braces, the radiator cover plate and supports, hood hinges and latch, etc....even the damn front wheel tubs!!!! I also polished the Edelbrock intake, bought a polished aluminum Holley carbeurator, chrome alternator, master cylinder, etc...

It was a nice Camaro, in great shape, but the chrome on the car was probably still worth way more than the car! hahaha....

I wish he still worked there, but unfortunately he doesn't.

Thanks for posting these pix! Stunning hardly describes the relationship between the cars and their surroundings.

Though I have to admit I was reminded of Terminator II for some reason I can’t quite put my finger on..... :p

A LOT. It would be much more than the cost of a high-end paint job, because of the trim and body-panel removal, paint-removal, and prep involved, then the cost of the actual plating.

The parts to be plated have to be COMPLETELY free of paint, oils, etc., because it will ruin the finish, and then buffed and polished until very smooth. Also, ALL rubber, plastic, etc. has to be removed, not just masked, because the plating process will quickly melt it.
