Anyone have a Tempur-Pedic mattress?
I am seriously on the verge of buying a queen sized tempur-pedic mattress. I have a few questions.
I know that they also sell mattress pad toppings. so you put the tempurpedic layer on top of your exisitng mattress. are they actual tempurpedic mattresses much better than this? ive also heard of imitation mattresses. are they lesser in quality? lastly, anyone know where I can get the best deal on them?

I've got one and I love it. Everytime I lay on the bed, I instantly feel relaxed. I don't know much about the immatation brands, but the tempurpedic mattress is real good in quality. I think mine came from Brookstone.. I don't remember for sure now. As for deals, I don't know about that. There might be places online, but the deal might be offset by the shipping charge.

I was wondering about those too. I have yet to find a mattress that I can sleep thru the night on, and we've tried bunches. So next was either one of those tempur-pedics or one of those fancy air matresses. Both my in-laws and my brother have the air matresses(Select-Comfort?), and love them. The tempur-thingee looks like it would have the very draw-back you guys have mentioned. I'm not grossly over-weight, but I lost my girlish figure years ago

I have a king sized Tempurpedic mattress that was purchased as a "set" along with their box springs and 2 extra large tempur pillows. I've owned it 2 years and absolutely love it. It is a bit warm sometimes, but aside from that, it's a great mattress.
Prior to purchasing it, I looked into the "Sleep Number" bed among others. The price of the Tempur as a bit more, but has been worth it in the long run. Brookstone's price on the king set with the pillows was just under $2000 whereas the Sleep Number bed was about $1700 (without pillows). I had one of those SOMMA mattresses before the Tempur. It looked like a standard pillowtop mattress on the outside, but actually had water cylinders that were adjustable for firmness. That was okay, but after a serious car accident, I started having lower back problems. The Tempur was recommended by one of my therapists and I certainly haven't regretted the purchase.

Why not try the pillows first.I personally perfered down pillows and was still having a stiff neck .I went to BROOKSTONE and bought a temperpedic pillow .Not the solid one but one were I beleive the material is cut up .I love it. I Dont wake up with a stiff neck. Also brookstone gave it a LIFETIME qurantee as long as you keep the Reciept.

We have a king size inflation type (Nautilus) which comes with a four (4) inch layer of "memory foam" on top. Before buying this new bed, my back hurt so bad by morning that I would have to get out of bed and stand up to get relief. Three (3) years later, I still have never slept so well. I like it soft on my side and the wife keeps it very firm. It has changed my life!

visco elastic foam
I looked at these for so long, and bought the brand name pillow. I loved the pillow so much, I was set on the Tempurpedic mattress. BUT, I didn't want to shell out the big bucks.
Instead, I looked at all the cheaper options, read as much on this stuff as I could, and finally picked an imposter. I bought an 8 inch thick queen mattress from Rick's Foam Products on eBay. http://stores.ebay.com/id=73246148 I didn't get a cover, but I did get two pillows. These pillows were inferior to the Tempur pedic one, but the feel of the mattress was almost exactly the same. It is very firm, unlike most of the knock-offs, and has shown no signs of degredation over the past year that I've had it. It arrived vaccuum packed, about the size of two old-style sleeping bags rolled up, but when I broke the seal on the plastic, it expanded rapidly to normal size. It only cost a little over $200, so I thought the compromise in not getting a terry cloth cover well worth the difference in price. I think that Rick's now has covers for these mattresses. I love mine, but they are not for everyone. Tempur pedic allows you to sleep on one for 60 or 90 days to try it, then they'll give you your cash back if not satisfied. Then, you can buy the cheap one and realize you can now do many other things with that cash. Worst thing to do is buy at the mall- SO much mark-up, just like buying parts at the dealer! enjoy it- I've never enjoyed the sleeping part of going to bed so much! k
