I love the 300z final body style. I raced a twin turbo one night and I don't need to say what happen I know they have some engine problems when the oil is not religously changed. A girl that went to my high school went through 2 motors in 2 years and then totaled the car.
What engine were you looking at?

Z or ZX...quick history of the Z

The original Datsun/Nissan Z-car, arrived in the U.S. in 1969 as a 1970 model. Small, light, and stylish with a 2.4 liter inline-6 cylinder engine it was fun and offered sports car lovers a reliable and affordable option. The 240Z spanned 4 model years then became the 260Z for 1974 and part of 1975, and finally the 280Z in late 1975 to 1978. With the 260Z, Datsun also introduced the 2+2 model with very small rear seats. The 1970 to 1978 cars are all 1st generation Z-cars.

In 1979, the 280ZX was introduced. This model was larger, heavier, and much less sporty then the 1st gen. cars. The engine carried over from the 280Z, then in 1981 a Turbo model was added. More gadgets, gismos, etc. made them popular, however, and a bunch were sold through 1983.

In 1984, the 3rd gen. Z-car arrived as the 300ZX with an all new 3.0 liter V-6 and entirely new styling. These models were heavier still but HP and torque were up so performance was better. Both normally aspirated and Turbo models were available through 1989.

In 1990 a new 300ZX arrived. The 4th gen. cars were completely rethought to deliver high performance and refinement...to set a standard for Japanese sports cars. Lots of technology in engines and suspension; multi-link front and rear suspension, rear wheel counter-steering, 4-valve/DOHC engines, limited-slip differentials, etc. These cars are heavy, complex and expensive. Unfortunately, the world economy was about to take a huge dump and the market for expensive cars from all marques came crashing down.

By 1996, Nissan was hurting big time and pulled the plug on the "Z".

After a 7 year absence, the 5th gen Z, arrived last year as the 350Z (note, not ZX) with a new look, new family shared platform to keep costs down and great performance.
