WIth Picard turned into a Borg, the Borg defeated the entire Federation fleet (except for the Enterprise, which was making repairs and didn't get there in time) and was headed through the solar system for earth. Riker, in command of the Enterprise, engaged the Borg in negotiations; Picard, on behalf of the Borg, demanded that the Earth surrender to be assimilated. Riker ordered a commando mission where Data and Worf took a shuttle craft through the Borg shields and transported on to the Borg ship. They kidnapped Picard, and the three of them were transported back to the Enterprise. Data plugged himself into Picard/Borg's computer system, which was linked into the Borg's hive intelligence. A residue of human Picard's personality emerged, and told Data to put everybody in the Borg central intelligence to sleep (a "rest and refurbishment" period). Data managed to link into the Borg central intelligence and do just that, seconds before Riker was going to ram the Borg ship with the Enterprise as a last effort to save earth. Shortly thereafter, with nobody at the controls, the Borg ship blew up. Picard was "de-Borged" and took over the Enterprise again.
I'm embarrased I know all this. I saw that episode about three weeks ago. |

It was 2 episodes called "The Best of Both Worlds" and I had the tape in my hand 2 days ago but watched DS9 episode (Q-Less) instead.
There was never an explanation about why putting them to sleep caused a catastrophic failure of power systems. Even our 21st century hibernate systems have no such shortcomings.

The borg ship was damaged and needed repairs. With the borg ship being put in 'sleep' mode there was nobody to tend to the damaged ship hence the destruction. Picard told data to put the borg ship in sleep mode because it was the least protected subsystem that data could hack into.

OMG, those are great! With this evidence, who could doubt Darwin?
Remarkable similarities. I'd say more, but I need a banana. B |

But the guy is a great target for satire. That look he gives dead-on into the camera when he's kinda searching for the right "subliminable" message is just priceless. When I see that look I wonder how in the heck somebody who does that could ever be taken seriously. Well, starting with Ann Richards, Democrats (the French, Germans, Saddam, Iran, etc) have been "misunderestimating" him at every turn. They confuse looking silly and malapropisms with being silly and dumb. Even when you point that out, they still deny it. They can't get beyond the exterior. But hell, Democrats have had a problem with exterior appearances since before the War of Northern Aggression. B |
