What's a cord of firewood cost in your area?

I see the price of a cord going up and up here, and it's very plentiful. 10 years ago, a cord of seasoned and split wood was about $60, delivered. Now it's up around $150. just wondering what it costs in different parts of the country. (I'm lucky, and have only had to pay for my wood once)

At my house it's a 45 minutes! For those not willing to cut their own you can buy a longbed pickup truck load for about $40.

I bought 2 last year and paid 125 each. I recently bought a chain saw, so I imagine the cost will be...........an arm and a leg.....unless I shoot one off first

Tracy, I'm surprised you were able to get it so much cheaper than I can out here. Now I know these guys out here are making a killing!
So far, Gum Swamp is the cheapest wonder if I could get it for that price delivered here

He he!! A few years back I got hold of a lot of very expensive wood that was used in furniture making. Several different finished oaks, cherry ect. It had been damaged beyond use in trasnsit. I took it home to use as hobby wood. What I couldn't use I burned in the fireplace. I told people it was designer firewood !!

LOL
Actually, it's the damn spotted owl thing that's driving up the price of wood out here I think. (One of the local logging companies always has a plastic owl hanging from the back of their truck they run thru the parade at our big annual town celebration )

haha firewood Not many places have wood burning fireplaces.
Few places around here to get it other than the old guy next door. I think he was selling for like 30. But you know on cold nights here (30-40) Most people throwing parties outdoors use pallets for firewood.

My dad just collects it from those free firewood piles that show up on the side of the street. Always enough for camping, I never actualy bought wood.

Read Narwhal's admonition about burning treated wood again. Its vitally important.

Other treatment types are bad, too. A good man, a dentist I knew, had a family camp for a couple decades when, unbeknownst to them, a penta (I think) wood treatment plant opened upstream from their camp. After some time, they suddenly noticed that all the water snakes died in the oxbow around their property, into which runoff from the treatment plant flowed.

The snakes ingested the fish which ingested the crustaceans, etc, etc--foodchain--etc, etc. At each link in the foodchain, toxins get concentrated. Snakes like the appropriately named, Agkistrodon piscivorus, being at the top of the aquatic food chain, concentrated the most.

Well, it turns out that the family loved fishing and had lots of fish fries for themselves, friends, Scouts, etc. So they too, were top of the food chain. So everybody got a dose of this known carcinogen. My acquaintence began getting some precancerous lesions before they figured it out and went to court to 1: stop the dumping and 2: get compensation.

Big lawsuit, dragged on for years and finally got a judgement in their favor. Narwhal, it was in Hattiesburg, you may know of the case. Anyway, it was a big pile of money. But the dentist told me that he would rather have his life back, eat fish from his oxbow, and know that he hadn't perhaps poisoned his family, friends, and the local Boy Scout troop.

May have been PCB's. Last time I saw the plaintiff was about ten years ago, he didn't look good and he had become quite bitter. Who could blame him? I haven't seen or heard of him since.

Incedentally, he has the finest painting of Nathan Bedford Forrest I've ever seen.
