How to find someone's address?

So I was in a car accident in the beginning of this year and I'm getting what I don't believe is a fair settlement, if you could call it that.

I'm in the process of taking the woman who hit me to court. This is only small claims court so I'm doing everything myself. I have already filed the papers and am trying to serve her. I'm going through the Sheriff to do it, so they're are no problems.

Today I received a call from the Sheriff's office saying they went to her address but need an apartment #. So I spent some of the day trying to get her address but had no luck.

I tried my insurance company and hers but no luck there. I can't get it at the DMV, nor the county recorder's office since she rents. When I use the phone book or internet it only brings up the complex which doesn't help because it's a large complex. It seems that no one can give out that info., so I don't know how to get it.

Does anyone know any other methods?

The DMV should have it (should be on her drivers license), so the sheriffs dept should have this info. If this for some reason wasn't given, the sheriffs dept should be able to get this info from the landlord (apartment managers office) so they can serve the summons to court. I would also think the sheriffs dept can require her to get another license which provides her full address, they're usually pretty picky about this sort of stuff.

The DMV will have it but they can't give it to me because for all they know I could just be some crazy person, plus I think it's the law.

When I spoke to the Sheriff's office it sounded like they couldn't get it, at least in this situation since it's for small claims court.

I have her address except for the apt. #, and I also have her phone # and DL #. If I call her I doubt she'll give me her apt. #. My friend suggested that I wait outside and follow her in the complex to see what unit she's at but it's way to big and that's a bit creepy.

If it's a legal summons to court, the cops have the ability to serve the summons. Someone's giving you a run-around. Or ask the court to mail it to her.

Or you should be able to get a copy of the accident report, it should be on there.

The police in LA don't take reports for the type off accident I was in. One even rolled by and stopped for about 2 minutes then took off.

I asked my wife, who's worked in the insurance industry for quite awhile. She agrees that you should go to the DMV and get a copy of the accident report. Since you were involved, you have the legal right to a copy of this, and her full address is supposed to be on that. Lot's of privacy laws now, she knows the insurance co. can't give out that info, and even in some states different departments can't share info that much either. My wife says it sounds like the cops might be a tad lazy though, that the apartment office should be able to help out the police when they are obviously performing an official duty like serving a summons or warrant. That's my opinion, too.
The DMV may charge a small fee for the copy of the report, but that's what you need.
My wife is curious about the circumstances about the accident, why you feel you were short-changed, so to speak, and why isn't YOUR insurance company helping you satisfy the claim?

OK, I read your last post regarding no accident report.
My wife's "take" on the situation, assuming "she" was at fault, is that YOUR insurance company is the one who should be making sure you get a fair settlement.

Have you tried Peoplefinder or other similar internet address finders?
Can you go to the complex and look for her car, then ask neighbors?

Basically what happened was the lady pulled straight out into me. I'll attach a drawing.

I feel that her insurance company is trying to pay out as little as possible in two ways. They only want to pay 70% of my damages and have a very low estimate, who is done by them.

I have three estimates all in the $3k to $3.5k range and her insurance co. estimate is now at $2.2k. I say now because it was at first $1.2k because they said some of the damage was not from this accident, so I had to prove it was.

They never even looked at pictures to make the 70% decision so something is up.

I have liability only so since her insurance company isn't coming back at me my insurance isn't getting into it. Seems funny that they don't want that 30%!

Luckily I have an appointment at the DMV on the 3rd so I'll get the report then.

Yeah the internet seems to bring up phone book results unless I want to pay some $$$.

The complex is gated and if I snoop around I might be mistakened for someone else.

He said there was no police report...however, in California, the people involved in the accident are required by law to make a DMV report (if the police didn't, for whatever reason) if anyone was injured or if the total damage exceeded $500. So, the DMV should have something, unless she didn't file her side of the report...

There is no police report, but they're should be a DMV report. I say "should" because I never bothered contacting the DMV so if she didn't then I hope one of the insurance companies did; I really doubt mine did.

I'm saying this, because you said the person is a renter. It also sounds as if she bought the cheapest insurance she could find. Those facts leads me to believe she is short on money. You *could* end up with a paper that says "you are right" but have no way to collect the money....

Either way, good luck.

My grandparents said the same thing, that I will probally have to go to Civil court if I win and she doesn't pay. I'm thinking that when she gets the summons she'll call her insurance company and be like "WTF, why am I getting sued?"and call her insurance. Hopefully something will happen before the court date with her insurance and they'll pay up. All I want is the price of the estimate!

She has Farmer's which everyone's heard of. It's not that I have a problem with her it's with Farmer's. They are being very shady and this is the only was that I know of to get what I deserve. That company is impossible to deal with!

I do have $1200 in unpaid checks from Farmers that I'm thinking of depositing so that if I win and she doesn't pay that I won't have to wait a year to get any money. Have to ask my laywer tkamiya, j/k
