Angry Member here is shill bidding on Ebay

I've tried ignoring this for a while but it's beginning to piss me off. A member here is shill bidding on his own items on Ebaymotors. It is fairly obvious and I have plenty of proof. It is so bad that he actually WON a couple of the items he is selling with his alter-egos, then turned around and relisted the item AND BID AGAIN WITH THE SAME I.D! So the poll question is, do I out him to everyone here? If this member wants to e-mail me to explain what the hell he is doing, go right ahead. I'd love to hear it.

I have often suspected "shills" in auctions - how did you sleuth this guy out?

He's selling ATSG manuals and has been for over a year. I used to watch them go higher and higher. Then I started noticing the bidders i.d's were always the same ones, bumping up the price till it reached 'critical mass' just before the auction ended. Too bad a couple of times it didn't work and he was left holding the bag. But, the next auction for a manual and the same person would bid again....for the same $16 manual they just supposedly spent $100 on that had the internet address in it where they could buy an unlimited amount for cheap! So since Ebay doesn't give a ****(hell, they make more money when shill bidding is going on) I'm going to try to put an end to it here. The member is jhodg5ck and his shill i.d's are 'giannarome' and 'silverstar560'. Here's the URL to the latest auction:

Please excuse my ignorance: What is a "shill" operation?

A shill is a fake. Shill bidding involves using alternate IDs or accomplices to bid on your products in order to raise the price. It's illegal and unethical but difficult to prove and enforce.

I have personally bought a bunch of stuff on Ebay and, so far, most experiences have gone very smoothly. What this guy is doing is not only unethical, but simply uncool. I would notify Ebay and let them handle it. They WILL look into it. The best way to get anything solved on Ebay is to call them on the phone. That way you have a name of an actual person that you can follow up with. They don't make their ph # readily available, but it is out there. Do a "google" search under "Ebay customer service telephone number". As I recall, that's how I found it to resolve a problem that I had.

I don't understand why this is illegal . No one is being forced to bid or buy this guys stuff.

Go into an auction with a price you are willing to pay, if the bids go over that price, don't buy it.

I guess its a slimey thing to do, but I do not see how it could be illegal. If it bothers you, don't do business with this guy.

Please understand that I WOULD NOT do this if I was running an auction, and do feel it is 'weasel tactics,' but on the other hand, no one is forcing you to bid.

I don't know if it's actually illegal in the 'real world', but it is a sleazy business practice, and it is DEFINITELY against eBay policy, and the policies of any other online or real-world auction, and should be grounds for permanantly banning him from doing business on eBay.

That's really all I meant by "illegal". No reputable auction house or site will tolerate it. It's grounds for getting your a$$ booted right out the door.

If you have to ask, the answer may not be within your reach...

Ebay ? Buy?

HI ALL
Would like to hear from MB owners that purchased a car from Ebay. Are you satisified or do you regret? Thanks. Happy driving.
