89 Volvo 740GL anyone in FL looking or should I buy?

Ok I stopped into the mechanics today to check on the BMW andI was talking to guy that always works on my car. He needs to sell his 89 Volvo 740 GL Everything has been rebuilt has new a/c, tires, alingment etc. He is looking for around 2k The car looks to be in great shape and the reason he is selling it is very understandable. If anyone in FL is looking for one email me and I will give you his number. I'm considering it but don't think I could swing it. Anything good or bad about these?
Thanks Guys

700 series Volvos are good solid cars. They suffer from a number of little gremlins, but will generally last several hundred thousand miles before requiring major service. My daughter's '86 740 wagon has over 250k and looks like hell, but it just keeps plugging along (it was even inexplicably stolen and recovered recently). I convinced my BIL and neighbor to each purchase '90 740 turbo wagons and they both love them. They're great cars, and for 2k you can't go wrong.

740's are very good cars, comfy economical, very solid. A swedish version of the W123. Maybe slightly nicer seats than the w123. And the gasoline engine in the 740 has stood the test of time and carries the miles very well.

I drove a 87' 760gle in college which had the unreliable Peugeot-Renault-Volvo design 2.8 V-6 that came in the Eagle Premier, Pug 505 and the Volvo 760-780. It was the best car ever!

My parents bought it new in 87' I recieved it in 91' when I went to college and I sold it in 97 with 198k miles. the only maintenance it recieved were 2 water pumps, tires, brakes and a new ignition switch in 10 years.

the guy I sold it to still drives it everyday and I saw him last Summer in which the car had 312k and no problems except another waterpump and 2x4's under the rear coils!

Super, Super cars! I have owned 6(very used) and as you can see we have an 02' wagon. Love those MB's the most though.
