Cell Phone Reception

Does anyone have any solution for boosting your cell phone reception from inside the house. Like..adding a external antenna outside the house (Repeater).

I talked to Verizon and they said I was at boarder of a dead spot area. I've been seing a few external antenna being sold..has anyone tried any of this?

Thanks in advance...

This doesn't answer your question at all, but I've tried those cheap in-the-phone things and they didn't do diddly (the place I bought them had a good return policy).

Best of luck. I know exactly what you're going through. We were in a dead zone for both Sprint and T-Mobile. IOTW, ~2 years of not being able to make / get calls reliably from home. The usual "between towers" stuff, etc... Verizon works very well for us now.

I had an in home repeater for Nextel, a half way decent one will cost $250-400, sometimes cheaper on ebay.

I had this problem until I was told by Verizon to update the software on my phone monthly. You press *228 and when prompted press 2. It will take like 2 minutes, and then thank you for updating, then restart your phone. I did that and it made a HUGE difference in my reception.

True...I had a Sprint phone once and noticed the steadily degrading signal over time, and was also told to upgrade the software...

...it's basically a sysgen file that tells the phone where towers are located/new ones constructed/others removed or disabled.

You can see how old software would be an issue in this scenario...
