My guess is this seems to be a diagram of the coupling device to utilize an MB diesel engine/tranny for a genset. I've heard talk of doing this with the stock CC setup used for a speed control.

edit: After looking at the diagram again, I see the shaft is labeled pto, which means it's probably for a tractor. The 500 rpm shaft speed roughly corresponds to my Ford 2N pto, which is 542 rpm at 1500 rpm engine speed. I'm done guessing now...

Now if I just had a 2N
I knew that's what the drawing was. It was just the why that had me scratching my head I guess. I thought maybe I just missed someone requesting info on how to hook up a gen to a tractor PTO.

...I clearly leapt to conclusions about the MB diesel connection, but they actually make gensets specifically designed for the tractor pto. I've seen them in the Northern Tools catalog.

RLeo was trying to convince me to use belts to drive my new DC welder ( 400 amp dual output from the Burden Surplus Catalog)... it has a pulley with dual 'B' machine belt grooves.....
My Diesel Ford tractor goes 540 rpm at the pto at 1900 rpm.... but I only need 20 hp to run the welder.... so I really don't need it at 1900 rmp... it has 65 hp I think....
I really don't like belts... thus my interest in Gravel two wheeled walking tractors.... no belts.... all gear.....
So I am looking at using three V8 cam gear chain drives in an enclosed box to get the speed from whatever... to between 3000 and 4000...
I could not get to Randy's website where he put the picture in the first place.. so he put it here... I thought it would be funny if he never visited the thread again... to see what kind of questions and theories were put forth....
However , the other option was running it off the back end of my low mileage 79 wagon engine.... that would not be as hard as trying to get the rpms up by 6 or 7 times...

...I have a 1947 Mighty-Man Walking tractor, but it uses a belt to transfer power from the Wisconsin engine to the gear box.

Wish I knew more about it. The wife picked it up at a garage sale a while back. It says it's built by Marine Iron Works of Tacoma, WA. It came with a two-gang disc, a plow, a cultivator and a front-mounted snowplow.

Gee, such folly.

If and when Greg finishes this timing gear concoction he should name it Rocinante.

Finish the project ? Remember Randy, the important thing is the Journey.. not the destination....

Zeitgeist, How about some pictures....I have never heard of a wife picking up something like that and bringing it home.... you are a very lucky man....

Leatherman, let me clarify. The missus didn't purchase the tractor cuz she appreciates the finer details of rare vintage farm equipment, she had something more devious in mind. It was brought home and added to Mr Fix-it's list of projects and passions--it's currently # 3234 on that list.

She wants to use the cultivator to weed her row crop pathways. The 2 1/2 hp Wisconsin is pretty weak and I don't know where to get parts anyway, so I was going to attach an 8 hp B&S from an old JC Penneys roto-tiller. This project, like many, is currently in a perpetual holding pattern, waiting for time, enthusiasm and money.

I'll try to gather all the scattered parts and pieces, and take a pic. I'm curious to find out if this thing is of more value as a restored piece, or as a utility device.
