cat allergy cure?????

Heres the dilemma, going to get a 3 person apartment next year, and one of the room mates has a cat. I really dont want to have to make him give up the cat, however i am fairly highly allergice to cats. If i don't have any direct contact with them its not really a big problem, but if i take a nap on a couch that the cat has layed on i wake up with itchy eyes and a stuffed nose. Has anyone had any luck with the medical products out there for allergies? what about the shampoo they have out there for the cats? Opinions/advice appreciated,
Ryan

Someone suggested to me years ago, that eating local honey would help overcome allergies to pollens. I have since used local honey in my tea.
Perhaps cat urine in tea might have a similar effect?? I've had no experience with it.

My father-in-law, descendent of a long line of poor dirt farmers, has a very utilitarian view of dependent animals.

If they don't perform a useful function he says, "Shoot, shovel, and shut-up."

there are hypo alergenic shampoos out there, basically anti-dander, you could also do accupunture it sure seems to do wonders for a buddy of mine. he does it about once a year now and I think it has been more then that this time around.
Doing the accu on the cat may help but then the cat scratch fever may kick in.

Take the cat and sell it to your local Chinese restaurant. Keeps everybody happy.

Do you have to move in with this roomate? I used to have a rule about roomates.

Never room with someone you're not sleeping with or who isn't family.

I would reconsider a roommate with a cat in your particular situation.

You would be taking a lot of alergy meds and still suffer somewhat.

Is it worth it?
yeah, thats pretty much along the same lines as i am thinking, i dont like cats THAT much. Can't really re-think the room mate situation, the potential room mate would just be stuck giving up the cat(living by yourself is much more expensive than living with room mates, and we are in college lol). So, in that light im trying to look into possible cures, but if there isn't anything out there bye bye kitty.
