Speaking of "WMD" . . .

What's up with the administration and Department of Energy? Didn't they get the memo . . . the Cold War is over. The Department of Energy is spending $6.5 B on nuclear weapons this year and the administration has requested $6.8 B more for next year and a total of $30 B over 4 years for the maintenance, modernization, development, and production of nuclear bombs and warheads.

While I have no objection to "maintenance" of our existing stockpiles of WMD's but do we still need full on "development & production"?

I don't doubt that our nukes are aging and that the Russian nukes are probably in worse shape than our stockpile is, but the funding that is being pitched by the administration is more than Regan was spending during his build up against the Russians and Chinese.

My question is not about dismantling the nukes and the sub force, but whether the nuke budget for the DOE be adjusted for a changed world.

Here, pass these foil hats around for a moment.....ready?

A great way to "hide" funding stuff is by putting it into expenses that people don't especially question. You stick lots of money into a category and smooth it into subcategories like peanut butter over holey bread. Then you spend the money developing "black" items like say, the SR-71 or Stealth airplanes.

Lets say you wanted to conceal a billion bucks by calling it "maintenance equipment and supplies". Then you distribute the billion bucks over all GSA purchased items. Viola! $400 toilet seats.

DoD or CIA and several agencies who's names are off the usual menus must have some level of Congressional cooperation for this or it violates constitutional spending authority.

So when a big item goes through that is vaguely described but nobody raises a big fuss over, I dive for the aluminum foil.

I'm not saying that's what's going on, mind you.....

Take off your hats now.

George W. Bush lowered taxes so that big corporations, white men, and gun owners could oppress The United Nations.

Looks like we'll be seeing a lot of output from that conspiracy generator engine.

Its more fun than just saying Cheney did it.

Updateing nuke is far more pricey than they originally cost. Development costs......Nothing is getting any cheaper except wages. Soon everyone will be working for Walmart adn CVS at minimum wage and living out ofd there cars thanks to the greedy CEO's outsourcing everything but the one thing that should be. Their own jobs.
There we go. Clinton started outsourcing WMD's to China.
