Overkill! Lots of functionality you don't need.

Get a pro power amp instead...rugged...designed to stay on for long periods of time, takes RCA or 1/4" jack inputs, gobs of power...and CHEAP!

depends how many sources you have. If you run everything from your computer you can go with just a power amp, then use the mixer on your 'puter as your pre-amp/volume control.

If you need more inputs for external devices you'll need a reciever or mixer + power amp.

If you still wanna go for a reciever, i'd get a Yamaha, with Denon a second choice. Even their low-end models are solidly built and sound excellent. Stay away from Panasonic/Technics and the new Sony stuff.

If you're tight on funds- go ebay

P.S.- sorry to hear about your red-light ticket. I nearly got one from a speed-camera in Wales last year when I was lost and found myself in a zone where the speed limit went from 70 to 40!

Peyton. go to ebay. Get a vintage receiver for cheap. Not all solid state vintage receivers go for much. Within a particular set of years the transistor tech. was at a peak and generally all good quality.

If all else fails contact me and I may sell you one of mine.

Macintosh MAC 1900's are available on Ebay all the time. The prices are reasonable and they are built tough. A Marantz model 2270's are also a powerful reciever and a good deal as well.
