The biggest improvement we could make to this country is to go to proportional representation, as used in Britain. Our current winner-take all form of government leaves millions of people without a voice in our so-called "representative" democracy.

B already beat me to the punch with his answer. However taxation is commonly used as a form of oppression. If you limit a person's ability to provide for themself, and then "give" them some alleged "entitlement," you force that person to depend on the government to provide for them. Of course with EVERY government "program" you set yourself up with having to continually wade through their red tape to remain on their program. Viola, the government can now dictate what you can, and cannot do in the name of your ordinary everyday life. They don't have to hold a gun to your head, just the ability to "survive" under their quagmire of rules and regulations.
