Question 1975 Honda CL360 sitting

I have a 1975 Honda CL360 which has been sitting for 6 years.
I know. I know. Bad move. Yes, it has (had) unleaded fuel in the tank. I'm not sure what it is in there, now. It had a tune up about 400 miles before it started it's sitting marathon. The tank was also coated internally by the folks at POR15, who made sure it was done correctly, the tank is as good as it can be aside from the sitting gasoline. I plan on draining the existing fuel and putting in a new battery to start it. Any suggestions on what else I should do before attempting to start it to prevent damage?
I am expecting some bad news, but details are appreciated.

Regards,

More than likely you will have to disassemble/clean and reassemble the carbs.

Agreed. If you hadn't already drained the remaining fuel from the float bowls, it has "varnished" into all of those carb inlets and passages. Makes for REALLY hard starting.

Other than that, you should probably lube the cables, chains and any other exposed linkage prior to riding...

Good advice PaulC.

I would replace the plugs. They are too cheap to really consider letting them give you crap.

Check the tires, tubes, brakes, drain the oil and replace it, oil the chain, make sure the suspension is ok (no leaking fork seals, etc).

Dunno besides that and what has already been mentioned. Run some Marvel Mystery Oil through the first tank (like a cup or something) to get through the valves and help the carb even after a rebuild. Its only oil; the worst it will do is make your exhaust a little smoky.

Talking Thank You!!!

I have yet to try these, but all suggestions sound good. Between yardwork, 2 kids under 6, and full time work I might be able to do this within the month. I was inspired because there's a CL360 on ebay now going for a lot more than I would have ever paid and mine is identical in appearance.

This forum is the best.
Thank You
