Ford Help

My friend is having problems with his '95 Ford Escort LX. His speedometer acts up above 40mph. It makes a clicking noise and jumps around a lot. It seems this is a common problem on these cars, but I have been unable to find a good Ford forum. He said he had the speedo cable lubed, and it fixed it for about a week. It seems a replacement is at hand. How involved would this be? has anyone had any experience with this problem?

I had the same problem on my '95 wagon. conveniently, the car cannot travel faster than the speed limit, so it was no problem. :p
I traded the car in before I fixed it- to a ford dealer- who seemed to know about the problem and consider it no big deal... actually, they itemized my appraisal and that repair was not even listed. the -$200 for a trailer hitch was the kicker...
hope that means it is a cheap fix...

Having been a previous owner of these american yugos all I have to say is: tell you friend to get rid of it as soon as possible. Any fixes aren't worth it to that heap and it's just the beginning of problems.

You could try http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=737 Not bad if you are patient.
