Help with alldata T.S.B.

Dear All

I need help in acquiring the TSB Number 73-71-06A, from Mar 98, listed on Alldataīs website in reference to a Pontiac Grand Prix.

I know that this is a MB forum but I would appreciate if someone could help me in getting me a copy of this TSB. It is for my MILīs car and she asked that I help her since the delaership here has no idea what we are talking about.

Thanks,

Iggy

Your dealer should have access to the March 1998 service bulletin, if not, contact Pontiac directly. Otherwise, there's always the $25 alldata subscription.

MYI

Please check from where I am posting. Guatemala, Central America. This is my MILīs car, a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix. Basically since she purchased the vehicle from the Pontiac Dealership here, she has had this problem of the A/T getting stucj in 3rd gear. Well, I just found out since I used her car for the easter holidays.

Well, to make a long story short, the dealership here has no idea what the problem is with the car. I talked to them about the TSB and they responded like I was talking sh** out of my a**. Therefore, I wanted to show up with the TSB in hand to get them top do their job right! Have contacted Pontiac in the states and they can give me no clear direction as to which department I need to speak to in reference to this for the region.

So in short, I was hopeing that someone here had alldata access and could pull the TSB for me.

Thanks, Iggy

File In Section: 7 - Transmission

Bulletin No.: 73-71-06A

Date: March, 1998

Subject:
Transaxle Erratic and/or No Shifts, Stuck in 3rd Gear, MIL On
(Repair Wire(s) Under Air Cleaner)

Model:
1998 Pontiac Grand Prix - Built Prior to VIN Breakpoint
WF249884 with HYDRA-MATIC 4T65E Transaxle (RPOs MN7, M15) and 3.8L Engine (VINs K, 1 - RPOs L36, L67)

This bulletin is being revised to add additional repair codes. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 73-71-06 (Section 7 - Transmission).

Condition

Some owners may comment on one or more of the following conditions:

^ Transaxle erratic and/or no shifts

^ No power when accelerating

^ Stuck in 3rd gear and/or Torque Convertor Clutch (TCC) fuse blows

^ Intermittent MIL/Service Engine Soon indicator illuminated

Cause

Wires to the torque converter clutch (TCC) switch may chafe against a reinforcement rib on the transaxle's side cover and the bottom of the air cleaner assembly. Damage to the harness may result in stored diagnostic trouble codes of P0711, P0712, P0713, P0716, P0717, P0741, P0748, P0753, P0758, P1810, P1860 and/or open fuse in the TCC circuit. This condition may cause one or more shifting concerns or stuck in third gear.

Correction

Inspect and repair any damaged wires and install P-clip to re-route wiring harness.

Procedure

1. Remove the air cleaner assembly and air duct following the procedure in Section 6 of the Service Manual.

2. Inspect and repair any damaged wires. Refer to Section 8A of the Service Manual for wire repair information. Wrap the repaired wires with friction tape, and install a piece of plastic wire harness protector/conduit over the repaired area. Wrap the protector/conduit with friction tape to protect it from future damage.

3. Install harness to P-clip approximately 90 mm (4 in.) from the TCC breakout and attach P-clip to transaxle stud (Figure 1) with the plastic clip facing outboard and tighten nut to 25 N.m (18 lb. ft).

4. Reposition the repaired harness to provide the necessary clearance to install the air duct and cleaner assembly following the procedure in Section 6 of the Service Manual.
