What do babies dream about?

Any shrinks out there know what babies dream about? For example a 5 month old baby. I mean they have yet to discover much of the world around them. For example, could they dream about walking (cause they see "big" people do it) or is their imagination limited? Or do they just dream about food and clean diapers?

After five kids, I think they mostly dream about having their diapers changed.

If you want to know how crooked a stick is, just lay a straight one next to it.

It's not the tall sails that bring a ship to the port of destination, but the unseen wind.

Since infants lack the cognitive skills to communicate, we can only theorize about what they might dream about. If dreams originate from one’s surroundings, then their dreams might consist of toys, teething rings, warmth, wetness, mom and dad (only about half the cases is dad around), food, milk, music, TV, riding in the car (or SUV), the shopping cart, the stroller. Any event can be recalled in a dream and modified almost infinitely. But I forget how old kids are before their eyes can focus. Prior to that dreams would have to be sound, taste, touch, and fuzzy colorful blobs.

The funny thing is that kids are really atuned emotionally from the cradle (or even before). To the extent dreams contain an emotional content the emotions would influence or even dominate everything.

Come to think of it, its not so different when you get older......

Oops: some of this repeated what Paul wrote

Eating, sleeping and pooping. Oh, and throwing up.

Along the same lines, ever seen a cat or dog sleeping with its legs twitching? What are they dreaming about?

Howdy Warren,
Depends on the breed. Greyhounds, Whippets, Salukis and other sigthounds think about chasing jackrabbits. Dobbies and Rots are dreaming about chasing the mailman
