was this a 'security force' truck?

i recently saw a television program about groom lake, motion sensors have been placed on 'public' land, BEFORE you get near the base outer perimeter, they know you're coming...

chaz, you have some 'nad's!

i would have turned around way before getting that close to the gate.

Not sure who the truck belonged to- it was a blue pickup, not the usual white, which came down off the hill and tailed me, then when I pulled up close to the gate, hung back then shot past and through the 3(!) gates. Then another white truck showed up out of nowhere and went through too. The guards were watching us from the shack but I made sure I didn't get too close.

That's interesting about the motion sensors- I thought they only had them at the perimiter.

I had a great room at the Luxor hotel the previous night overlooking the airport and the Janet terminal for groom lake workers. I couldn't quite convince my wife to stay out in Rachel for the night though...

Its kind of silly to keep it all secret. You cannot buy aerial photos or satellite data over Groom Lake from sources in the USA but I understand you can buy them from Russia and the EU (this is just rumor, I've never checked). So we taxpayers cannot get info on land and facilities we own from our own gov that we pay for but the rest of the world can get the info. I guess an American could buy the info from foriegn govs. I wonder if that puts the buyer in some sort of spy status with our gov?

No need for the tin foil you we both know our Gov can be somewhat strange at times. Strafor for example is loaded with information that is considered classified by our own government while it accessible to anyone who wishes to subscribe. It's the wall street journal to the intelligence world.

Recently I was talking to a retired guy who let slip some info that I knew to be true. He caught himself and changed the subject. Because I knew it to be true, I probably should have reported it. That's what you agree to when you sign on the line. I may still report it, I'm kind of in an ethical bind.

The "funny" thing is that the particular nugget he referred to is freely available for interested people to read on the internet. So here's this bit that would be fascinating to discuss, that anybody who has not signed-on can freely discuss, but I cannot even allude to it in terms more specific than I have here nor can anybody else who has signed. But most of you guys can run and skip and shout it to the world with no-o-o-o problem.

Botnst,

You know there are good reasons you can't discuss stuff like that. It often makes no sense on the surface, but when a recent book was published that discussed certain submarine missions from the 1960's-1990's, we were all reminded of our "pledge" and told not to comment to the press when they called and asked. So we didn't. And the "story" was somewhat less interesting, and it died pretty quickly. Which is as it should be. Jim

Cool Area 51

I made this trip a couple years ago in the Beetle.

I drove down the huge dirt road (Groom Lake Road?) as far as I could (clearly marked by signs, cameras, a security truck up on the hill, etc). I didn't get tailed anywhere, but they did keep an eye on me as I stepped out of the car and walked around and took pictures of the "Photography Prohibited" signs.

I'm sure that they have motion detectors along the 7 mile Groom Lake Road. The security truck was sitting on the top of a ridge as we rounded the corner. I doubt that he sits up there baking in the sun all day waiting for someone to drive up... they knew I was coming and they were ready, which is to be expected.

Not much to see, no UFOs or aliens flying around, but the Little AleInn was pretty cool. I stayed one night there, as I was on my way from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas, and I figured it would be a cool place to crash for the night.

It was a fun trip, I'll have to see if I can find the pictures.

I'd talk to him personally about it, the penalty is way to stiff and often when you are in charge of classified material you know its been declassified on stratfor or some other source you inadvertanley loosen up on that subject. Its tough enough for enforcement to sort out who's leaking and who's not, if this guy isn't what you would classify as a bad guy and you know the info is readily available elsewhere let it go IMO.
