BTW: It's Memorial Day.

It's not all hot dogs cold beer and keeping the rain off the hamburger buns. Lets not forget to appreciate what our Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen, and Coastgurd have done to defend freedom.

My 2 year old even braved the rain for this mornings parade to honor our service people.

Thumbs up

Yes, let us not forget this day!

For those who are not in the USA, this day is a day of rememberance for our armed forces that have fought in ALL of the wars that the USA has been in.

Finally, after so many years, we get a WWII memorial (in Washington D.C.) - it's about time!

Our local NG unit left over the previous 2 weeks for training in TX prior to deployment in Iraq. There were parades and lots of local newspaper and TV coverage. One of my coworkers just returned from a year deployment with an Army Reserve outfit

I also know a family who's two older boys are Marines overseas; one in Afghanistan and one in Iraq. The kid in Iraq, whom I've known since he was 10 or so, is in Force Recon. The other is a rifleman. The woman's third son just graduated from HS and signed-up for the Corps. Their Dad was a UDT/SEAL in the late 70's and 80's and recently got injured diving offshore. Old fart shouldda gotten out of that stuff long ago. He now pushes a desk for his company.

Its hard to imagine the tension, pride, and fear of this particular Mom and Dad, and all the other Moms and Dads, but there it is.
