Looking at another car...AUDI A4 2.8, 1996

Ok. Well I found an AUDI A4 2.8 Quattro 5 speed with 110,000 miles for 5900 dollars. Loaded boat, power windows, sunroof, power seats, etc. Before I even test drive this car, is this thing horrid?

I get mixed reviews on car websites...some say its reliable, some say it breaks constantly. Whats the deal? Are these pretty decent cars?

My uncle has an A6, it seems to be a nice car but I think it has had a few electrical problems. No offense but isn't 3 cars enough? I find myself doing the same thing, there is a nice green Jag down the street that would look sweet next to the W126!

I have a '98 1.8T quattro. They are nice cars. Better handling/riding suspensions than the W202 C-Class however they had a lot of trouble with the front suspension links holding up and if they haven't been replaced they will need to be.

A friend of mine has a Quattro A4 MTM from about '95 I think. He has had LOTS of problems with it. It's kind of like a running joke about what will go wrong next. When he bought it (about 2.5 years ago), he got a 3 year comprehensive service warranty and it has saved him many many $$$! He is looking at getting rid of it to coincide with the warranty running out and getting a bit newer one. Apparently the newer ones are not quite as dodgy. It sounds like they are similar to the '70s Jaguars; get a good one and they are fantastic. Get a bad one though...

Might want to check in over here:

About the best Audi forum I've found.
I too toyed with picking a mid-90's Audi to replace the Chisler(that we just dumped) but kept hearing just enough bad stuff that I decided I wanted a better car than the Chisler, not a worse one.
