youth market?

With so many threads and post questioning the quality and the gimmicks on newer MB's I can't help but think that their decision to chase the so called "youth market" must be a contributing factor.

I have noticed that I get no admiering looks from from the twenties crowd when driving one of my beloved 126's. "heh you old codger get that giant old iron with it's tractor grill out of my way so I can fly..........

Frank, A Mog is at the very top of my list, right now we are looking at sixty acres of very rough country here in the costal mountains to build a house on. So won't have any money for useful toys till that's done.

Some of the logging roads where I hunt will give most any 4wd a work out ,would love to show the tough guys with their high rise Fords what a real machine will do.My wife likes them too.........

Re: youth market?

Wow, tough one. I'm not at all impressed with the gizmos in our lowly C230 sedan; even Honda and Toyota cars have more -- and more reliable -- gizmos. We would've gotten (and almost did) much more for our money with a Honda Accord EX V6 (gizmos out the wazoo, comparable gas mileage, and an engine that makes ours look like it came off of a lawn tractor). Still, our Benz is a solid car with good gas mileage and good safety features. We gave up 50 hp, tons of interior room, and some gizmos (especially a DVD nav system) to get the more expensive Benz. I think MB is making an attempt at gizmos just to keep up, and perhaps not necessarily to target a particular market.

She does? Amazing. I've never known women to actually like a mog. They tolerate it, but like? She's a true outlyer!

The key is to get them hooked on the brand early. Then as their income increases they can move up the vehicle class ladder.

Actualy I'm not thinking about the few wise for their age young people that can see the value and fun in the older MB's.

What I was thinking about was the new MB's that are heavly advertised and compeating against the the sporty Japanese cars.I recall that about the only place you ever saw an add for a Mercedes was in National Geographic depicting a stogy older couple standing beside a yellow 300D in a rose garden.

It seems to me that with Mercedes hudge European and world market for truck ,buses and other industerial products that they would have been much smarter to have stuck with selling fewer cars with their well known quality approach rather than buying Crysler and flooding the world with lower priced that do everthing but bake bread for you..........
